I average 25 with a mix of city and highway driving. I have never averaged anything less than 20. My best was 35 on a tank of strictly highway driving.

what kind of driving do you do?

When I drive on the street i only get aroung 16.5 mpg. If youre only dirving short distances on the street...you cant expect too much.

When my car was stock, I used to get right around 20 in the city and about 26 on the highway.

I'm sure it is my driving habits, but I did not expect this bad. I like the torque, so I rarely get out of 3rd gear. almost all of my driving is around town. I've been trying recently to drive in higher gear as much as possible, but am gaining little. I'll have to check my filter. I thought also about new plugs. Not sure that will help much though.

I'm up for a zmeet anytime. I sure dont see many ZR's around here. Next time you're in the Franklin area let me know.

I drive ~95% city and avg < 16mpg. When I was on the highway ~25% of the time or so I got around 20mpg. All that stop n go driving kills gas mileage! It all depends on where and how you driving.

I was afraid of just exactly you are saying. I am more like 99% around town and I have seen exactly that... <16. If I drive like granny (what fun is that), I push up to 17.3. Uhg! Better get used to it.

I average about 16-17 mpg city with me driving like a granny most of the time. Doesn't matter too much to me since I only drive 3 miles to work.

Shift up to a higher gear as soon as practical, and coast whenever possible. I can kick it up to ~20 in the city, and ~30 on the highway, but that is driving like a granny, as you put it.

Z is not for MPG saver.
get Hybrid than

and loose allyour stuffs in the trunk, take out spares, run with 1/4tank gas, maybe swap the seats to racing seats.
if not, get S2000

Brentwood eh? I go to school at MTSU my Z's back in knoxville though >.< reset your gas mileage display while youre cruisin on the interstate in 6th gear. if you arent averaging like 24-26 MPG's then replace your air filter or somethin.

3.5 is bigger than 2.8 so obviously it will consume more gasoline per rpm than the smaller engine................even idle in park will consume ~~ 10-15% more.

Why most countries outside of N. America have an annual engine displacement tax plus a big fine upfront on 3.0 liter and greater.

The S2000 is advertised with a lower EPA gas mileage than the Z. Probably mostly due to its fairly short and tight gearing.

As for the Z, I think in general, it gets the best gas mileage under 70mph in a 6spd. I'd guess around 60-70mph in 6th gear gets the best gas mileage.
