Just curious if anyone has a tried any of those fuel system cleaners? Like the ones you get at Pep boys and Autozone

Does the car run any better or get better MPG?

It depends on the level of carbon deposits you have. Chevron Techron concentrate is the only one i have ever heard of actually working. It will unclog fuel injectors, remove valve and combustion chamber deposits. It is also used as a preventative from carbon buildup if used every 3000mi.

It would have to have some affect otherwise it can't legally claim to clean your fuel system (in a perfect world where not every label is for sale) but the effect probably isn't noticable or required otherwise it would be noted in the owners manual to use fuel system cleaners. But yeh I use them, they won't do any harm, only good, so go for it

I used the fuel system cleaners in my 280Z and all this did was put mucho carbon buildup on the spark plugs. They are nothing more than snake oil.

I have to agree on Techron. I've used Chevron exclusively for over 2 decades. I could not find one nearby where I live now, so I dump Techron concentrate in the tank every few fill-ups. I have NEVER had any fuel related failures, and the only time I looked at the intake valves, they were perfect after 75K miles. I also use acetone with every fill-up, but that's for different reasons, although I understand it may have some cleaning benefits also.

i used one of those fuel injector cleaners on my 2002 WRX when i had it. wierd thing is that when i put in the the gas tank, the car would just seem to use WAYYYYY more gas than it should. in one day it used up HALF A TANK!!!! and i only drove to and from school (16 miles total) and i think i went to the mall and friends house, no way it should have used up half an entire tank of gas. this occured for 2 whole tanks. after the second fill up i think the cleaner did it's job and left the system. it just really kinda scared me there for a while. it was fine after that, can't say if it did anything or not.

i don't think i am ever going to use it again though, i ended up filling up twice within just 5 days. that little $8 bottle of cleaner ended up costing me like $60 on gas alone.

Anyone heard of Seafoam? Use to run it on DSM's alot. Also on my friends 240's. It is also good for finding exhaust leaks.

I've used the NOS brand pour in and it works great, not only feels more responsive boosting octane levels, I've had 1-2mpg improvement while in use.

Also: don't quote me on this but, I've heard other guys say they had a problem with the three step intake system cleaning performed at auto shops due to the electronic throttle control, they've had to take it back to the dealer because CEL came on and wouldn't reset from aftermarket OBD2 scanners. Not sure what the fix is/was but it had to do with one of the sensors IE: TCM

Yeah, Seafoam is the ****. In the 3/S world, no one questions its ability, it has been proven to do its job, amazing little can it is.
