Default Force induction and cam overlap.

I'm in the market for some new wheels and am leaning strongly towards a new ('04) 350z.

I've seen the group buy for the ProCharger and am half tempted to buy one even without the car.... but i digress.

What i'm wondering is, how much overlap is there with the stock cams? Adding forced induction with a large valve overlap is like trying to pressurize a open ended tube. With all this talk of forced air, no one is talking about cams. Just wondering why.

The overlap of the cams in a stock car like the Z usually work well with forced induction. Obviously high lift and duration cams would create problems with FI, but the stock grind must be conservative enough to maintain an OEM idle, so it'll be fine.

Yea, i guess i was thinking vtec... but even still, you can move a lot of air though even a small over lap at 8-10psi. For the $5k you'd spend on a SC kit, the extra $300-500 (?) for a cam would probably be well woth it.

Yea you're definitely right. If you're going to do it, you may as well do it right.

Someone is going to have to do some research on the best cam overlap for an FI 350Z. I'm sure it will come up much more in the forum when people actually are trying to make more power with the turbo kit they have on the car. Nobody, except for james chen and a few others actually have a turbo on there right now
