Default Rough Idle (Video)

I noticed something strange tonight. When the electric fan turns on, the idle goes rough and erratic, drops below optimum idle and a few times has a knocking sound when it goes to 500rpm. Goes away after the fan shuts off.

You'll hear two knocking sounds @ 15 seconds in, until I give it gas to rev up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k13OGVpO5gk

The last few seconds the fan shuts off and the idle goes back to normal.

Only mod - JWT popcharger w/ECU reset pedal procedure.

28k miles.

Darryl

TIA.

sorry guys saturday night so its good times. Id reset the ecu by disconnecting the neg. battery cable overnight. In the morning reconnect the battery. When you get in your car to start it again dont just start it up turn the key on for about a second just long enough to let the insturment cluster lights come on. Turn it back to off for 10 seconds. Do the on off steps about 4 or 5 times then start the car and let it idle for a few min. Then go drive it.

I was thinking about doing the throttle relearn procedure, but if that's easier, I'll do that. Why do you think it only does this when the fan turns on?

Jared, it's good people like you who make forums a good place for information. I was scared to see "IF YOU USE A SEARCH BUTTON YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND etc"

Thanks man.

Isn't the fan going on when your air conditioning compressor turns on? This uses engine power for the compressor and your RPMs may drop, but they should go up. Have your AC on? For some reason I think the Z turns the compressor on if you leave the cabin climate fan speed control in auto mode.

I could be completely off-base here, I just quickly scanned the thread didn't read much lol

Sorry - forgot to post results.

Everything is 100% ok now.

When the fans kick in, the idle increases a little now and stays put. Thanks everyone for the help.

Was expereincing the same semi rough idle and did this procedure.. worked wonders. I'm happy again! Thanks for the info, I'm truley glad this site exists- owning this car has been a blast and the only part that was orignally scary was when issues/maintenance popped up- site is deffinetly the cure for the common 350z cold.

Do you have to wait over night to do this? or can you wait like and hour and then try it? The only reason I ask is because I am suppose to go for a drive with some buddies tonight. Any info is appreciated, thx.

PS: I have a 2005 350z Performance 35k.

Not 100% sure on this car, but other cars with similar procedures usualy require 4 hours as a DIY process (unplug and wait)- or doable instantly at the service dealership- was about $70.00, too.. Tell your buddies there a chance of rain and can't go out tonight..

so I tried it and it didn't seem to work.... I'll have to post up a video of it in a couple days as I am on vacation right now.... I also notice that it is a little bit more noticable when the car has sit for awhile.

Then I personally think you must have something physically wrong, like a vacuum problem or actual engine problem. Any codes?
