I don't have anything to read the ECU, is there an analog way to check codes?... I owned a 91 240sx before this car and was told the way to read codes was to check for blinking lights off of the ECU while the key was turned to ac.

I believe counting the flashing codes was from the OBDI system, correct me, anyone, if I'm wrong.

We have OBDII systems, so if you have a code, you would have a CEL (check engine light).

If you don't, but still having this idling issue PLUS the idle relearn doesn't work - time for dealership or reputable mechanic

Ah, yeah 95 and older 240's had OBDI. Nope no lights come on... I might just be paranoid since it is a used car. I get back Friday so I'll most likely have a video posted Saturday. Thanks for the info.

Default Here's my video

I drove the car around the block to get it warmed up and then let it sit... Please watch the whole video, especially after I rev the engine because you'll hear a small pop and then 3 seconds later you'll hear another one. The popping doesn't happen until about 35 seconds into the video.

Also, the car at idle is a lil shaky, didn't know if that was somewhat normal because this is my first Z, ever. Thanks.

Man, that was minor compared to my original video. It dropped down almost stalling and had that popping sound, really loud.

After I relearned the idle, it seems fine. It idles like what you see in YOUR video and that seems normal. I don't think a high performance car is supposed to have an arrow-straight idle with the higher lift cam profiles.

i got a bogus SES light recently and my dealership (Performance Nissan) reset the ecu for free...(probably similar to unplugging it for 24 hours)...call your dealership and see if they will do this for you.

^Well that's just it, I've never driven or owned anything this nice and fast, my last 2 cars were a 90 and 91 240sx and neither one shook or idled like this.

I know you said that it's because it's a higher performance car, but I figured since it's a lot newer than my old cars, with less miles, that it wouldn't have these types of sounds and idle issues.

Not that your insight doesn't matter ladyzed, but does anybody else think I have anything to worry about or am I just paranoid?

Edit: Dspiel, I"ll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say, thx.

seems like you are over reacting to something that is pretty simple to fix

^I already tried relearning the ECU by disconnecting the neg on the battery over night and performing the on/off procedure.

Sorry to bring this back but when doing the procedure and turning the key on/off. it is just the KEY right? I should NOT start the CAR itself, correct?

Just want to make sure before I go F-in my car up even more.

God bless this thread.... if it works for me haha.

Thanks

tried this and it did not work for me...

I turned the key on for 1 second all the way back to off for 10, and I did it 5 times then started it and once it warmed up the idle went right to the way it has been.

Should I take it in, or did I do something wrong here

That looks like a vacuum leak to me.
