Default Oil Level Mistery

This has been a question that has been on my mind for quite some time now, and that is, how many quarts is there between the L mark through the H mark on the dipstick? Whenever I take my car to get an oil change at the dealer they always top it off right to the H mark, and whenever it reaches the L mark I top it off again back to the H mark as well.

However, conventional knowledge will tell me that there's a quart of oil between the L mark through the H. But when I add oil to the car when it is on the L mark and top it off to the H mark it takes almost 2 quarts of oil.

Does any one of you knows exactly how many quarts are there between L-H?

*Disclaimer: I have search the Top 100 question and did not find the answer there, in addition to that, I search every thread under the keyword: Oil level & dipstick to no avail.

I have noticed that it is not 1 quart between those two marks but closer to about 1.5 or so.

Also when full (5 quarts with stock pan) It should read a little under "H"(about two thirds way between L and H) So 1.5 Quarts between marks makes sense.

Thanks for your reply. However, the question was not wether you felt that I had a oil consumption issue. But rather, how many quarts is there between the L - H dipstick mark. So, your statement is irelevant to this topic.

Alot of the older motor had the issue with getting a correct reading. I think with the revup they made the dip stick steight and redesigned it.

Irelevent it may be, and off topic. But he has a good point. I'm running FI and push my Z pretty damn hard when i drive her, and have never had to add a drop on oil between changes, or even noticed a drop on the dipstick at all. If you are adding any oil at all, you may want to consider having an oil consumption test done. Esp if you are getting close to the end of your warranty. Or at least maybe try a different brand of oil.

I can concure with that statement. 06 6mt revup. 5qts w/filter I'm at H mark. L to H mark for me = 1qt.
:flame suit on: I know this bc I have to add a quart due to OC issues

Please read my reply to him and tell me where did I came off as being a "*****?", I honestly thank him for his reply to my question and then when on to explain my question, which by the way, has not been answer by neither him or you. Plus I never used a derogatory name to describe him neither, as you have to me.

If I had a question on wether I was having consumption issues I would have gone to one of the many hundreds of thread under that same title.
