In theory you can blend your own with a good syn ATF [mobil 1/ Toyota] and the proper friction modifier [such as Lubeguard Black] to comply with the requirements of the dual lock up clutch.

Just a matter of getting the stick/slip chacteristics right?

BG, Castrol, AMSoil, etc. are now making fluids that's Nissan J-matic compatible.

Unfortunately any one can say their fluids are compatible since there are no published chemical specifications nor a test proceedure. Since it is a JATCO proprietary formula. They add a marker to ATF to analyse whether a stubstitute ATF was used since they provide the warranty to Nissan. If the tranny fails they pay Nissan the cost of exchange.
So you can bet they are looking for any excuse to avoid/void payment.

What Q45tech is try to tell you is that if you DO use something other than real Nissan Matic J ATF fluid and you develope transmissions problems, the dealer/Nissan will not honor the warranty. Your owners manual is specific on this point:

*5: Using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine Nissan Matic J ATF will cause deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability,
and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.

It's the only footnote printed in bold - they want to make sure they have your attention on that one.

it always baffles me when people want to use alternate brand ATF... what is the purpose?... The Owners manual (as indicated above) clearly states that using anything other than genuine Nissan J Matic will void warranty... why challenge that? Other brands aren’t going to benefit you in any way

ATF is changed very seldom - so even though Nissan's is expensive, it's not a big deal in the whole of things...

Welp... Im running an SGP valve body and ProTorque Converter on a turbo car. Although I have no proof, I feel strongly that Redline D4 is a better fluid for my application.

If waranty was a concern then OE J fluid for sure!

in your case, it might make sense... no warranty issues are going to matter... Off topic, but to your post - how do you like the VB and TC?... I'm considering it for my next mod. I'll have GTM do the VB and TC install, but I need to research which TC to use. Do you have a post or thread with a review of your setup?...

I put the VB in when I was NA. The VB is for sure the best thing to do, it makes a world of difference. The quicker shifts for sure will improve acceleration.

I put the TQ Conv in with my TT install so I don't have a before and after comparison.

I DIY all my work except the block bore and hone, this takes a long time to get it all done and tweaked properly. It does save money. As they say time is money...

I use Redline tranny fluid as well.....no warranty left for me.
SGP VB and EdgeRacing TC is what I have..

5AT guys that are considering going with a VB, go to the vid section and watch Daniels STS rear mount video through the twisties and see how fast his VB upgrade shifts. You will want one I guarantee it, especially if you're FI.

thanks for the VB and TC feedback guys... Edge Racing is what I was considering - have heard good things from several users... for VB I'm still debating, SGP or GTM... More research is necessary to satisfy my quest

Thanks again for your input - it’s definitely my next performance mod
