Engine Transplant
I know it is possible to translant the RB26DETT (skyline gtr engine) into the Z. My question is is it worth it? I ve herad or people getting 800 ponies out of that engine and It seems a lot better than the Z ecu. 350 horses after a chip! My question is. Is it worth it? It probably costs alot. But for such a good engine and all the mods for it...

You also have to take into consideration that if one of the parts on your RB dies then you gotta wait for imported ones. Also the engine swap alone maybe 10k alone, but then you gotta factor in the $$$ it takes you to add your mods. Worth it? It's up to you....but post pics if you do indeed do it!

get ready to run race gas all the time
if you want to push 500+ HP out of the RB26DETT, you are going to get serious pinging without running race gas. You will have to import all your parts, or buy them from Motorex. Either way, upgrades cost more. It would be spectacular, but for the same amout of money, you could build up the VQ and put down 500+HP as well, on non-race gas too.

Please tell em how to get 500+ out of the VQ35. BEacause to tell the truth I am a little wary about putting a different motor in my car. However if my VQ35 were to blow I would definitely go for the RB26.

cams
rods
crank
pistons
exhaust
tuning....etc...etc...
There is a guy in the DC area that puts about 430 HP to the wheels on his VQ30DE on stock internals. 500+ HP on the VQ35DE is not impossible.

How about something completly different. Arn't the infinity FX models based on the FM platform? How 'bout a 450Z? Swap in the 4.5 L V8 from the infinity! Put in the AWD system as well. Sources report that the front suspension on the Z is already setup to accept AWD, so why not?
It would be expensive, but the parts for the motor would be readily available from infinity, as well as servicing. (Try to find someone to service the RB; good luck) I haven't looked into it, but aftermarket stuff for the infinity motors is probably there. As long as your going custom, throw on a supercharger. It will be wild.

Although it may cost $10K either way.. add-on turbo, or engine swap. To make use of anything close to 800HP is gonna cost more in drivetrain upgrades as well. So if you really think you want that kind of power, its gonna cost more than just getting the engine. This is assuming the new engine doesnt come with a driveshaft and transmission that can stand up to that kind of power. The nice thing is, that went it comes time to sell the car, you can swap in your almost new stock engine if you needed to. With an add-on turbo, you just have to sell your beat up stock engine with it.

I dunno if the Z (or the cuzn G) could hold a V8 in the engine bay without serious modification. The space already seems tight with a V6, but I am not too knowledgeable in this area; just giving my .02

Eh?
Mike,
How is the RB overrated in your eyes?
That motor has quite a history and has proven to be an fantastic platform for many amazing project cars in the world. Some tuners have been able to squeeze 1200+ Hp out of that motor!
Curious to see what motor is the "epitome" to you...
=)
