Default 03 base 5th gear grinds

i took my car in today at local nissan dealer for 5th gear grinds inspection, and tell me that transmission internal need to replace, which cost me 3895 to replace......my car is 03 base, w/67700miles, MT. Anybody can help me out on this.......beside buying a used tranny here? from now...i try to avoid the grinding sounds...i shift 1, 2, 3, 4 and to 6th....skip 5th. if this bad to tranny......any comments pls help.....

try to get them to warranty it. ALOT of Z's have synchro problems.

nor should it cost you 4k to be rebuilt. if they will not accept it, go to NNA and complain and ***** and moan and all sorts of stuff.

if still no, check out a transmission repair shop and see how much they would charge you.

yeah, skipping 5th is not going to hurt anything, you really dont need it anyway for now. I would never pay that. You can get something aftermarket cheaper. You dont need to get it done soon as driving w/o 5th is no big deal, spend some time and research the best way. Get a few quotes.

i have the same problem. will west covina nissan cover this? i have an 06 with 13k miles on it :O

wow, u serious........your's 06 model, now i can understand why Nissan tranny is shittt build........since yours 13K, still under warranty.....u can just take it in for repair, cuz mines is out of warranty, wish u luck

I' having the same problem on my 03 with 22,000miles. Will not yet but I can kinda tell its starting to grinds. Nissan does make some crappy transmission!!! Thank god I got extended drivetrain warranty!!!
