Default P2135 CODE (04 350z)

Hey guys, I got up this morning to warmup my car to go to work. I cranked it up and died. It revved up for a sec and died. I turned it on again and it stayed on, but the check engine light came on along with the traction control and air bag ( i wanna say). Then I turned it off, and turned it back on, and the extra two warning lights came off, and now I only have the Check Engine light.

Anyone have any clue on this code??? Is it safe to drive?

I had my code read again at Advance Auto Parts and this is what it said:

P 2135
TPS/ Pedal Position Sensor/ Swith A/B
Voltage Correlation

What could this mean???

You either have a bad throttle body or more then likely it is the throttle acuator at the top of the gas pedal.

Thanks man! I cleared the code for now, and see if it was just a fluke... (CROSS YOUR FINGERS) And if it comes back on, off I go to the dealership. I had actually just installed a voltage regulator, and it came on the next day after I installed it. I know it was rubbing against a couple wires, and maybe that was it, so I just removed it all together.

Yes, very common to get this weird code out of the blue. I can mean a bad TB, but I would just clear it...and see if it comes back before going that far. Good luck!

How much did the throttle body cost you?

The cost now is only $148 cause they are now remanufactured but just a little while ago you had to buy new and they were $600.

Sounds kinda similar to my issue that I had before, this might help you

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....osition+sensor

ultimately I think it was a bad sensor or loose connector on the accelerator pedal position sensor

Can someone clarify this for me? If I throw a code (P2135), reset and ecu and the SES light stays off was it a fluke? I have driven about 50 miles and the SES light is still off, is this good or bad. Thanks in advance.

So, was it a fluke for you guys or should I be concerned? I got P2135 for the first time.

After a day of auto-x I started the car, and it went into limp mode (would not rev past 1500 rpm). I shut her down, waited 30 seconds or so and restarted. Drove fine after that but SES light was on. Got a reader to read the code and cleared it. Drove for 3 miles and no SES light, no 1500 RPM limited limp mode.

You sure that's not a Toyota (jk), but this code normally refers to the throttle position sensors reporting different values between the two throttle sensors and the Acellerator pedel sensor. The FSM lists the following possible causes.

-Harness or connector
(The TP sensor 1 and 2 circuit is open or
shorted.)
(The APP sensor 2 circuit is shorted.)
-Electric throttle control actuator
(TP sensor 1 and 2)
-Accelerator pedal position sensor
(APP sensor 2)

The FSM also confirmed the running condition in Fail Safe for this problem is +10 degrees of operation (throttle).

If it went back to normal it would suggest a everything is reporting ok now, whether this is a problem is probably TBD.

^Thanks for the response. I found a page from the the service manual listing the code under section EC. Also under section EC, I found this:

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning ABS009AT
DESCRIPTION
Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning is an operation to learn the fully closed position of the throttle valve by monitoring the throttle position sensor output signal. It must be performed each time harness connector of electric throttle control actuator or ECM is disconnected.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

With this in mind, I think I know what the problem was. The throttle probably didn't return to its position when I shut her off, so when I started her back up, the voltages did not match. I saw the differences in voltage in the "View Freeze Data" mode. Here is the data where you can see Long Term fuel trim 1 and 2 do not match up. They are highlighted red:

Throttle Position: 7.4%
Engine RPM: 825 RPM
Load Value: 23.1%
Coolant Temp: 186 deg F
Short Term Fuel Trim1: 12.5%
Long Term Fuel Trim1: 7.8%
Short Term Fuel Trim2: 12.5%
Long Term Fuel Trim2: 4.6%
Short Term Fuel Trim3: -100.6%
Long Term Fuel Trim3: -100.6%
Long Term Fuel Trim4: -100.6%
Short Term Fuel Trim4: -100.6%
Vehicle Speed 0 mph
Fuel System 1 CLSD
Fuel System 2 CLSD

Perhaps cleaning the throttle body to ensure it operates smoothly and returns to closed position so the voltages will match.

I also asked the FI section for help on this.

If I remember right, long and short fuel trims have more to do with the mixture adjustments durring regular running (Long) and cold start running (short), but I could be wrong. Either way I think you are right about the throttle position getting stuck. That would make total sense for what you encountered. Just to be safe and sure you may want to inspect the mechanical working of the butterfly and lightly (very lighty) lube it.

Totally agree with mavtais on the procedures.

This code was discussed on IS - FX35 forum, VQ35DE family. Most likely cause is the position sensor at the TB, meaning you'll need to replace your throttle body. Other members reported occasional dash lights and code P2135 with total throttle failure - no response beyond idle all of a sudden while driving. All electrical and engine driven systems still work.

It's possible the problem is at the pedal, but doubtful. The pedal sensor uses a dual potentiometer set up that is pretty robust - there are not too many parts that are even capable of failing in that sensor.

If you have ever installed any kind of throttle controller that manipulates pedal signal (Blitz) and it has a short in the wire or connector, this could also cause a funky signal to the TB, throwing the very same code.

I just started to get the same issue, how do you clear codes? I’m new to the Z platform and probably late to it all.
