Default crank pulley

im a bit of a newbie when it comes to crank pulleys. hoping the experienced people out there can give some advice.

well after looking into getting a complete aftermarket lightweight pulley set i began to read and realise that the one that matters the most is the crank pulley. so i think im going to proceed with replacing that with an aftermarket lightweight pulley. not an underdriven. but before i go through with it. to those that have done this mild mod, has it been worth it to you to swap the stock crank pulley out for the lightweight one? any problems down the road after so many miles? in the long run id hate for this to do more harm than good. i did read however to get one with the steel keyway not an aluminum one as it will wear out and will be more susceptible for vibration as time goes on. so whats the verdict? thanks

I have the UR three piece pully kit ... and eh. I am was\still am not too impressed with it. It's a bolt on. You'll notice you reach redline just a tad faster. Not sure how just replacing the crank would be.... probably not worth the time.

I know on a past car I had. Ford Focus oh yeah lol, I did the UDP set. It was amazing the difference it made. But that car responded amazing to little bolt ons. This Z however does not. I have yet to do the UDP on the Z but heard little bolt ons do not make that big of a difference. If anyone has any dynos to prove other wise. I would love to see them.

alright cool fellas. thanks for the honest opinions. ill probably just scratch that off my list then. i have learned with reading alot of the forums that bolt ons on the Z are not worth it. cut to the chase and go TT it what seems to be the approach of choice. even with all the bolt on i have done tho, exhaust, headers, tp's, plenum, cai, i dont regret them. visually it made my love for the z that much better. i love how it looks with what i have done. but alas, i too am highly considering going TT after my 06 touring is paid off in another year or year and a half. well until next time i have something to ask about. take care everyone.

replacing the crank only yields exactly the same change you noticed - motor revs a bit quicker and is a bit more responsive. The change in weight of the crank pulley is what nets this change, the other pullies don't offer any change, they just look pretty.

if it's relatively the same price I would invest in either a motordyne 5/16 spacer or just save it.

had UR underdrive crank pulley installed since 03....no issues whatsoever. Also did the idler pulley delete mod recently....no regrets.

requires a spacer behind the alternator bolt(shiny one is the UR underdrive crank pulley)
