Default Engine Temp Climbing

Yesterday I noticed the temp gauge higher than it is supposed to be. As we all know its usually about half way. On the freeway with a full car, the needle was about 3 notches above normal and fluxuating from there and 3 notches from the top! (53 degrees outside temp) Popped the hood and saw the overflow tank full. Let her cool down at my destination and refilled with more coolant and babied her home with no problems. I did get into full boost a few times, but with plenty of time inbetween. The car felt and sounds normal. Any suggestions? First thought was a bad T stat.
Thanks.

After doing a little searching...looks like I need to purge for air in the system.
