Default Exedy Flywheel Failure!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to post an update on my current situation for anyone else who may own this flywheel.

About 1 year ago I purchased the Exedy Clutch and Lightweight Flywheel. Since I bought it it has performed very well and was a very good product. Had about 15-20k miles with no issues.

As of Saturday night I was driving the car shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the car started bucking and ultimately shut down. Initially I thought I had blown the motor but there was no evidence of smoke, oil or other symptoms. Underneath the car I discovered the Crank Position Sensor was dangling.

After getting the car to a garage and dropping the transmission I found the problem. The sprocket or wheel for the crank position sensor which is normally welded onto most flywheels had somehow come off and got chewed up in my flywheel and clutch. It is held on by little screws which may have backed out. It is also possible that the sensor pushed it off or knocked it off balance causing it to come off. Either way the metal grinding up in there destroyed the starter and the crank position sensor and did some damage to the housing.

So if you do own this flywheel you may want to get to the flywheel and ensure that the screws holding this piece are lock-tighted down and very secure or you may possibly end up with this issue.

I called Exedy and they were of no help by telling me that they have no way of knowing what caused the piece to come off unless they took it apart themselves.

I will be posting pics shortly when I begin the install of the new parts. I am thinking of going with a Competition Clutch and Flywheel but am uncertain whether or not to go with the Stage 2 or Stage 4. Still havent decided but any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also just bc this was on my 03' 350z with the Turbonetics ST.

JWT flywheel or Fidanza. I think they're the same. Never heard of any issues with them. I wanted to try CC myself whenever the stocker starts slipping.

really sucks about your problem man. i did a quick search and couldn't really find anything, so this may be an isolated case. it's too bad that exedy won't do anything, but how can they

Update:

As of today I bought a new starter which I think I over paid for but I am in a time crunch so ya. Ended up at $266 bc the core of my other one is chewed up. I pick up the Crank position sensor today at Nissan and the Flywheel and Clutch should come by Wednesday. Once I get all that and the car back up on the lift I will take pics of the amazing destruction that occurred because of the Exedy Flywheel.

did you see any symptoms before the crank trigger actually ended up failing?

I am having similar problems with my exedy flywheel but my rpms are just dropping to 0 randomly and the engine cuts out when i press the throttle in gear

Um only that night. The car would kinda blip or hesitate for split seconds and I thought maybe it was fuel or something but ended up I hit high RPM and that wheel came off. I didnt hear any rattling unusual of the normal clutch rattle to tip me off. The car operated fine other then the hesitation.
