Sorry.....NOT Normal.

Is this when you are driving in "D." Can you Manually down shift into 2nd ? If so then maybe your just stopping too fast in "D."

If it's in D it shouldn't matter how fast you stop and what not , should still downshift in proper order imo

I dont drive it in D, I use autostick. I can downshift myself and it spikes the rpms to like 35-4000 if i downshift at like 15-2000 in 3rd gear. but again will not by itself

When in D mode the car should go through all of its gears...that isnt right anyway you swing it..Test it out a few more times before you decide you know its doing that...

Not sure about just automode but using the clutchless shift I tested it a while back, it downshifts on its own around these speeds for me usually.

5 to 4 at 45mph
4 to 3 at 35mph
3 to 2 at 20-15mph
2-1 anything below 8mph

This is if you decelorate very slowly...I have been bored while in stop and go traffic many times.

Well with my 04.5 if I stay in 3rd it'll go all the way down to 8 mph or so and anything under that it'll drop to 1st.

Yes - my '06 does the same - has since new. So does my daughter's Mazda. I'm guessing most cars do the same.

This occurs when you are in the manual gate but choose NOT to downshift. As you come to a stop, the trans stays in 3rd until @<10mph - then grabs 1st.

I do believe this is normal.

Yeah it's gotta be normal. Mine has always been that way too, I never thought twice about it. If I go from 3rd to 2nd at a low speed it shifts pretty hard, harder than any other gear so the car most likely has enough torque to get by in 3rd down til 8-10 mph which is probably why it doesn't force a downsift until under that speed.

Yeah mine does the same as well, perfectly normal I assumed. There is plenty of torque to get up and go in 3rd even at 10 mph, no need to go to 2nd gear.

same here, mine will do that 3 to 1 when coming to a stop. seems perfectly normal to do that (and i am sure that some of the 6MT people do the same thing as well)

When slowing down, I downshift thru each gear as I'm braking. Use this method and you'll see if 2nd gear works. It should.
