Default so I changed my spark plugs...

And they had OIL all over them...

Guess I need to replace my valve cover gasket ?

So what else should I do since I'm going under there anyway...

Plenum spacer? aftermarket valve cover gasket? best spark plugs? etc etc etc ?

looking for ideas...

thanks

What side of the spark plug had oil? You only need to replace the O rings around teh spark plug holes and valve cover gasket if the side of the sparkplug that the coil pack attaches too had oil on it. If it is the electrode side, then you have more serious problems like Rings.

well this was the first time the car had the plugs replaced, it just hit 40k miles, it wasn't on the coil pack side, the other side which screws into the valve cover. but they were filthy and covered with oil...it could have just been 5+years of collection...we will see what happens when I drive around for a bit and check one or two of the plugs on each side to see if its just as bad.

I know I gata get the gasket, seals/rings...what else can I do since I'm under there.

It's your tube seals on your valve covers which means replacing the valve covers would be the fix...

Some, including myself, have fixed it with RTV but it's at your own risk

It actually seems to be more common than I originally thought.

It is not the Valve Cover gasket or the O rings for the tubes then. They are fine if you had no oil on the side where the coil pack goes. If it was on the conductor side like I said, then you have a serious problem which you can not just fix yourself and has nothing to do with the valve cover gasket or O rings.

Your engine has a problem with the Rings on the Pistons having blow by. You are probably using oil too.

I figured it was a common prob most nissan's (i've owned a lot of nissans).

Tomei cams? errr....little too aggressive for a daily, I put some electric lube stuff, mechanic told me to, and I checked it yesterday when I got home, no oil on 3 plugs (didn't check the others).

how about plenum spacer...and aftermarket spark plugs? any good recommendations?

I see what your saying, but the car doesn't burn oil. never has since I've owned it anyway....

Could it just be 5 years worth of collection? I mean the plugs weren't "soaked" with new oil, they were just black with a litttttle bit of oil on them.

I don't see anywhere that says it can't be the tube seals

Like I said, it's a fairly common problem.

Probably 5 years collection. I never let plugs go more then 30k miles even if they say 100k.

Sounds like you are fine then. No need to replace any gaskets then.

Yeah, there is a gap between the tube seal and top of the valve cover and the oil will slowly overflow onto the coil packs and basically sits there.

This look familiar?

I actually ended up having to replace my gasket anyway.... there was an oil leak on the inner side of the valve cover that you can't see until you take the plenum off.

Hmm re-read his posts AGAIN. He said it wasn't on the side where the coil packs go. So it ISN'T the seals for the tubes. It is the threaded side with the conductor on it which is inside the chamber.

Again, it isn't the coilpack side.
