Short Shifters

I've been told that short shifters usually remove the stops that don't allow for pushing the gear beyond what it has to go to go in to gear. I'm not too sure on any more of the specifics but that's basically how it was described to me.

there is a picture of the NISMO shifter in the link I provided. It is a direct replacement for stock, there are no other changes to the gearbox, linkage, otherwise. Same with the Stillen.

Here is what my friend wrote about the issue: "All these are is shorter shafts, so you wouldn't mess anything up. The ones that have the potential to mess things up are the ones that change the pivot point of the shifter, but I think that's just with a car with cables for shifting like mine. Your car since it's rear wheel drive, probably has a shaft going directly to the transmission so a shorter shaft will mean shorter throw for shifting. You could probably just cut your shifter if you wanted to make it shorter."

yeah I mean I'm not worried about the length of my shaft...I've never complained before. But you're telling me there is a specific point where it should be placed to make it work the best?

lol well I guess thats what I get for trying to overload my brain haha. I think I sat here for like 45 mins racking my brain trying to explain it to myself. Just needed a 9th grade science class refresher.

hellsolider08 - you can't reproduce the feel of one car to another...if you want an RX8 type feel, you'll need to buy an RX8 (and order out for lunch as all the Z's pass you )

seems like people are starting to confuse short shifter with short throw shifter. not really important, i enjoy having both done and from what the stillen description says it sounds like it also does both.
PS: osin, your friend doesnt have a clue. cable short shifters dont change the pivot point, rod style short shifters do.

I've also read a lot on this forum saying short throw shifters mess up the transmission/synchros, due to the excess stress and strain.
