Default how do you tell

how can you tell if you have a rev up motor or a non rev up motor? and what is the diff??

You might get flamed for this..... do a quick search on the forums.

But from what I gathered if you have an 03-05 it is not a HR. The difference (I think) is the power is about 15hp more and it turns a little higher rpm at peak??

2003-2004 - all models - VQ35DE
2005 Track and 35th Anniversay Model - VQ35DE(R)evup, all other models had non revup
2006 - all models with manual transmission - VQ35DE(R)evup, auto's have non revup
2007+ - all models - VQ35HR

2006 & 2007 5AT not revup

I thought you could tell the rev-ups from the fact that they consumed oil.

too bad non-revup engines, including A/T's, consume oil as well. The dealership I work at has replaced 2 non-revup engines and 1 revup engine for excessive oil consumption in the past 2 weeks alone.

thank you for not flaming me but i had no idea what the diff was. the only thing that i knew was that they were a little faster

Wow. You got off light. Maybe the forums are becoming more mature, or all the search warriors are busy in the epic GTM vs MRC thread in the Forced Induction section, but either way I expected way more flaming and failure.

I'll also add that the Rev-Up engines have a higher redline, so a simple way to double check is to look at your tachometer. If your tach has a 6600 rpm redline, then it's not a rev-up engine.
