Custom will be considerably cheaper. I read a post about a guy that got 9hp out of a custom. I'm sure he will post. Although the title of your thread is a little vague.

edit: That guy with the HKS exhaust vid is custom. That thing is bad a s s.

I think that the key to custom is to make certain that the shop that does it knows what they are doing and has a mandrel tubing bender. Simply bending tubes and bolting them to the car may gain you some HP but, it really is a crap shoot. If you go with an aftermarket kit, you can likely be assured that there was considerably more time spent on R&D to make certain that the product performs.
