Default Shifter/Tranny/Synchro problem??

Guys, anyone that can provide some feedback would be much appreciated. Although I will be going to the stealership (trying to avoid them) to find out what's wrong I don't want to get had and get the white glove from them. I just don't want it to be something possibly simple and I get taken for a transmission replacement.

Problem: Past week or two the shifter itself started to feel looser than normal. Now 3 days ago all of a sudden I can't "reach" 5th gear; I had to really throw it hard all the way to 6th; once I'm on sixth, if I can keep the shifter aligned then I don't have a problem getting it into 5th. This applies whether I have the car on or not...it seems that my 5th/6th gear are out of reach for lack of better terms.

I've found limited threads about a bolt coming loose and/or bushings wearing out and having the same problem (but there's no follow up). I've tried doing searches on different forums and couldn't locate anything similar to this.

Maybe I'm wrong but if it was the synchros or the actual tranny, wouldn't have I been having issues shifting, grinding, etc before? I hope this is not a stupid question but it's my daily driver and I'm really crapping bricks right now.

linkages, bushings, mounts. something is knocked out of place, or fell out of place... likely the shifter linkage.

Guys, I wanted to thank you both for taking time to reply..it may seem something simple or unimportant to answer for other folks....until they're the ones with the problem..that's for providing feedback and I will post up what I find out on Wed.

Well turned out to be a loose bolt underneath the shifter/linkage...got it tightened back up and it feels crisp n tight back to when she was pure...ha
