Default Feels like slipping in 5th

Hello

I have an 05 350Z with about 40 K miles on it

When I am between 4 K and 5K RPM's in 5th and I floor it (yes I am going about 100 then) the RPM's jump to about 7K.. it acts like when you have it in Nuetral and rev the RPM's lilke it is catching nothing. The RPM's will jump then come back and catch the gear again and start pulling. It is only when I am in 5th this happens between 4K and 5K RPM's.

This does not happen in any other gear and the gears pull all the way through

Can anybody tell me what this sounds like ?

Yeah, it sounds like you need a father figure in your life. Anyone who has ever driven a car can tell you the clutch is going. Doesn't matter if it is an AT or a MT.

And that is probably the nicest anyone is going to be. You might not want to check back on this thread unless you are into self mutilation. Good luck!

This forum can be harsh at times good thing you didn't post in the FI section.

I would say your clutch is shot. Just get a new one. It happens, some cars last 100,000 miles with no clutch problems. But some have issues at 20 to 30,000 miles. Depends on car and most of all the driver....

clutch prices vary - an genuine OEM replacement is $355 shipped from us, including the throw out bearing. Prices go up from there for more performance oriented units

One thing that I have been told, although I haven't tried it, is to test the clutch in 5th. I wouldn't suggest trying this test more that one or more times as it is not good for the clutch. Start the car and put in 5th. Set the parking brake. Now, start to let the clutch out. Does the car stall immediately? If so, the clutch *may* be good. If you can let the clutch the whole way out, it is bad. How far can you let the clutch out before it engages normally?

^ Listien to this guy I bought my clutch through them if I remember correct. JWT flywheel combo. Love the clutch hate the flywheel to much chatter.Buy great setup over all. If you do not plan on keeping your Z for awhile go with stock clutch and keep your factory flywheel. For resale purpose. If you plan on going FI or Nitrous go with a aftermarket clutch. I should have went with a 6 puck. You learn as you go. lol

Thanks for all the feedback eveyone

I am not crazy into mods and believe it or not just enjoy driving the Z stock as is.. fast enough for me.

Anyways like I have seen by searching the forums .. this only happens whn I am at like 4K RPM and floor it it slips. If I accelerate slowy it's fine and really only happens in gear 4 and 5.

How many hours to replace a clutch ? Whats the general opinion here ?

Just trying to figure out how much for labor if I buy the clutch my self and have a shop do it

it's going to continue to get worse - could be a few days, could be a few weeks, there is really no way to know. I'd change it before it leaves you stranded

First time changing the clutch on this car - with air tools, in a garage, I'd give yourself 7-10 hours with help. A good shop can have it done in under 3 hours, but how much labor they charge will vary by the shop

For all you internet bullies out there it is not my first car .. I have have had manuals for my entire life .. I am 35 year old man not some 20 year old kid ...

I am an expert in computers and not cars ... I earn a living in IT

If you have a question about computers I would be glad to answer it without being difficult

Just trying to get some questions answered

Nice! An IT guy who can't spell, or punctuate... that's odd. You could have fooled me by the post below. It doesn't matter what your physical age is... you showed your true colors in this post. You act like a 13 year old- I'm sorry.

Homie

I admit that was a bit out of line

I was a member 3 years ago on this list and just visited it the first time today again. Never remember it being this harsh so I reacted a bit hostile

But whatever it is what it is
