Default weird noises on a BRAND NEW car... no idea what they mean

i have a brand new 08 6MT with only about 200 miles. just got it about a week ago. anyway, upon leaving the dealer i heard a screeching type sound comming from the rear. this happened mainly while in 1st and 2nd gear, but never went away completely in any gear. a friend of mine said it was the brakes tht had to wear in, and i believed him.

now a week later i still hear it, not any louder then before but constant. i can really tell its there when im going around a parking lot of a neighborhood street because it echos off of the other cars. its a very annying noise and i cant really describe it, its kind of like when u take 2 knives and scrape them togther repeatedly.

it happens mostly when going slow/ and braking while in 2nd gear and especially while in reverse... in reverse i hear this noise and also what i KNOW is the bakes sqeeking... its really worrying me

can this really be the brakes wearing in? if not any suggestions? its driving me nuts because the cars BRAND NEW.

I say take it back to the dealer and ask them to take a ride with you.

x2. Shouldn't have to deal w/that with a brand new vehicle. If you want to do it yourself, jack up the rear end and spin the tires by hand to see where the noise is coming from.
