just reset ECU on my NISMO Z..... :(

i agree with kgb. originally my thought was that the ecu doesnt cut power to mods, so when i reset the ecu, i wasnt expecting much. my thinking was that of psychological influence. i was surprised that the difference was very noticeable. not everyone falls for the placebo effect. i'm still wondering though the role of the ecu with aftermarket mods.
in the various TS ecu threads, i think chebosto mentioned that TS found a value/factor in the stock ecu programming that tries to return engine performance back to factory standards. i'm not sure on this as i dont recall the thread specifically.
anyways, too early (and too poor
) to do anything now. i will still wait for nismo's official launch in a couple of months, but i seriously doubt an ecu will be on the list.

I appreciate your comments, but I'm all the hard evidence I need at the moment. No G-Tech or dyno is going to change my take on how my car is running. My enjoyment of the Z is more related to how the car feels to me, not 1/4 times or dyno numbers. If my car is making the stock 236hp or better on the dyno right now, I'll give it to you.

And yes, that is RUSH (only the greatest band of all time, not to mention most underrated).

I think this all comes down to getting used to the power. It's purely psychological. If you expect a result, you will get it.
Case in point; 2 track days back, my Z got really hot while flogging it in 102 degree plus heat. I actually worried that getting it so hot, I may have hurt it. As soon as I started to worry about it, the car felt slower to me. I was a bit freaked, it felt slower everywhere. After about 2 days of that, I got the Gtech out and you know what? The car was just as fast as it's always been. And immediately upon finding that out, the car didn't feel slow any more.
It's all in your head!

Ditto!
I had app. 10 whp gain on the day I had new y-pipe, straight pipe, and Magnaflow exhaust installed. The shop built a few more y-pipes to compare, and when we retested the whp was back where it started. Just gave up with further development at that point; haven't tried to reset the ECU though.
I have dynoed after each mod I put on the car and got gains each time. My last dyno I was 16rwhp and 15rwtq higher than the stock dyno, this is over a period of 4-5 months. The ECU obviously didn't detune or negate the mods, if it had I wouldn't have gotten the numbers I did.

Not always. Our Sunoco 94 R+M/2 method= 98-100RON
so...

Whats the link to the website? I couldn't be able to get the Nismo ECU at all with the S-tune S1 engine in my car though... that is why I am running MoTeC... Nismo only sells the ECU out IF they do the engine conversion in Japan.... how crap is that?!
cheers,

What kind of gas do you use? I use 93 octane and the car always runs strong. I hear people stuck in places where they only have access to 91 octane have more ECU issues if they get a "bad" 91 octane. I dont think this car was really meant to run on anything other than 93 or above and so when running on 91 you need a quality 91 or you risk the ECU pulling timing.

Since the Borla my gas mileage is down an indicated 4MPG; my throttle response is not NEARLY as crisp; midrange power is and feels flat; the engine doesn't feel particular eager to rev; the sparkplugs indicate my Z is running leaner.
The first couple of weeks with the Borla was great. Under full throttle, in second gear, the car wanted to break loose! It won't break loose now that's for sure.
The engine felt and pulled better before the Borla.

well, its been a couple of weeks since i had those mods put in, and i gradually noticed a lost in the pickup of my car. i've always thought that the ECU doesnt really negate mods, but now i have to raise an eyebrow.
this morning i reset the ecu to see what would happen. well, the car instantly felt very noticeably stronger. now i'm kinda leaning towards the camp of "ecu cuts mod power"
.....dang, now i have to consider maybe TS ecu or wait for nismo to put out an ecu (if they even will
)
anyways, just thought i'd share my impressions. btw, anybody know how often you'd have to reset the ecu? i heard its every 2 weeks or so....oh well.

As to you feeling this change, it is probably more psychological than anything else. A few weeks after driving your modded car, you will get used to the change and will forget what the car felt like without the mods.
