Sorry for this noob question. The search tool wasn't working for me this morning and I wanted to know the answer ASAP. I know the heads, plenums, and timing covers are different in the rev up engine. Also the sensors are different. I figured maybe just use the stock sensor and it should work fine.

I'm planning to build another vq35 but this time for the Z. Instead of just buying a oil consumption motor and build a short block, I'm curious if I was able to use the heads as well so I can port and polish, 3 angle valve job, use HR valve springs and maybe double shimming them as well. Just some light head work with a different set of rev up cams..or would those sensors be effected since they are rev up cams?

I know there is an extra sensor on the exhaust cam so I can leave the sensor hanging there plugging the hole like what I did on my vq35 swap on my maxima. I did not use 2 of the cam sensors there and used my original cam sensor is not on the heads itself.

Can anyone here give me more ideas/details?

You will need a different ecu and wiring harness to name a few.

 

I think its fine I drop 2004 engine in 2006 model and I used the revup harness with the revup ECU on a non revup engine and everything went fine with me ^_^

 

hmmm i dont understand why is it that different. can you tell me whats so different with the wiring harness like what extra sensors? cant just leave them unplugged?

well...the rev up short block i can use to build for the vq35de correct?


like my vq35 swap i did on my maxima...im using 3.0 timing, 3.5 block and 3.5 heads...and using my 3.0 stock ecu...also installed a greddy emanage ultimate to tune.

You can still control the exhaust cam timing if you buy a Haltech and do a bit of wiring.

Ok, so I was taking apart my 06 rev up motor.

Inner timing cover, main chain, secondary chains, sprockets, oil pump, cams and a few other things are out.

So I do see there is a 2nd camshaft sensor hole on each head for the exhaust.

I was searching online at a nissan oem parts site and found what was the same parts:
-chain guides
-crank shaft gear
-intake gear
-cam and crank tensioner
-primary timing chain
-secondary timing chain

What's different are:
-obviously the cams
-exhaust gear
-outer timing cover

I don't know if the inner timing covers are the same...I assume they are...can someone confirm that?

Also, my plan is to use these rev up heads and swap with non rev up parts such as cams, exhaust gears, and timing covers. Plug up the hole on the exhaust cam sensors. I do not see why this won't work..

I do understand there is more performance/tuning capability with the exhaust cam sensors as well but leaving that as is and make it like a non rev up. I do not want to buy another set of heads to work on.

As for the rev up heads...is the collector, upper and lower plenums different between the rev up and non rev up? i dont have the plenums from that 06 motor.

Not sure about the collector but the lower plenum is different however they are interchangeable. They are just designed for different power curves. Upper plenum is the same as non rev-up.
