I have a 2004 base 350Z. I just installed the SPEC super twin clutch/flywheel combo. When we got it all put back together the car wouldn't start. I am thinking the crank position sensor went bad. We had to take it out to change out the flywheel. The car turns over and over. It almost sounds like the firing order is off or something, but its obviously is not that because we didn't mess with any of that stuff. When we unplugged the crank position sensor, the car would turn over for about 5 seconds and then started and ran. It was definitely in limp mode while running, but it ran and I could drive it. The other thing we think it might be is that the exciter ring on the new flywheel might not be lining up right with the crank sensor. Has anyone had this problem with aftermarket flywheels or the SPEC one for that matter? I am going to replace the crank sensor first because that is the easiest thing to do by far. I am just hoping we are not going to have to rip everything back out and call SPEC about their flywheel. What do you guys think???
Thanks

there is a certain way you need to install the flywheel due to it actually being part of the ckp setup on these vehicles. you can see clearly on the back of the flywheel where to line it up to the actual crank.

We thought that it might have been that, but we didn't think it mattered because the exciter ring tells the crank position sensor where its at and makes the firing order adjustments. At least the way I understand it.

I called SPEC today and asked them about it. They said there isn't any specific way that the flywheel needs to installed as far as alignment goes, at least that they know of. We are thinking that the exciter ring is not sticking out far enough or too far in to trip the CKP sensor or the sensor is bad. They said I can send it back to them and they can take a look at it. It just blows, because we just got done installing all that and have to rip it back out again. I am going to replace the sensor 1st and see what happens.
We've seen issues with some flywheels when the tolerances on the notches for the exciter ring were not close enough and it wouldn't trigger with a Haltech but I haven't seen that with OEM systems.

I did a little more research on this. I found out that the OEM flywheels have one bolt hole thats a little bit smaller than the others, therefore it can only be put on one way. I called SPEC again and they seem to know nothing about installing the clutch a particular way. They said it should just bolt right up and start no problem. That is not the case. The car still has trouble starting because of it. We tried to replace the ckp sensor and it didn't help. Has anyone ever installed the SPEC super twin flyweel/clutch combo??? I don't recall there being any kind of alignment mark on it whe we put it in. I am not sure what to do. We are going to rip it out anf try to align it with the OEM flywheel notches on the exciter ring. Any suggestions???
