Default LSD question

I picked up an 05 about 2 weeks ago and there are some obvious mods on the car that can be seen. I am curious about the differentail and need to know about it. I am assuming that when you mention LSD it must stand for limited slip? I noticed that the diff on my car has what appears to be a date painted on it (08). I am guessing that it is a unit from an 08 model, are they interchangeable? Is so how do I tell the difference and do I have to remove the cover to see?

It could just be the date it was inspected last or something...there is no real easy way to tell what you have in there. It is easy to tell if it has a lsd though. what model Z is it?

Really don't know if it is a base or enthusiast, It has cruise and traction control.Been away from Z's for about 10 years now and have alot to catch up on. I am going to do some research and figure out which model it is. It has a few mods that were already on it when I got it so I am hoping that one of them was an LSD. I am so learning something new everyday so I will figure it out eventually. Any input that you can give would appreciated though.

If it has cruise control and traction control then you car is most likely an enthusiast model which comes stock with a Viscous LSD. Base models are the only models w/o cruise control, traction control, VDC, and a VLSD.

Is cruise control and traction control an option on the base model?

no, they dont have either. more than likely your Z has a vlsd. I would take a turn and give it some gas...see if your inner wheel brakes loose or if it grips and pulls though.
