I'm installing an OS diff this week. While I have the pumpkin out, I was considering the nismo diff cover. It doesnt have space for a bunch of fins and only the bottom 40% is finned. I seriously doubt a lot of air gets back there anyway. I'm using the car exclusively for grip/drift weekend stuff. OS tells me their diffs don't get "as hot" as others because of the way their's "locks".

Is anyone here using it with noticable results?..or are most just assuming it's doing something.

From what I've read the Nismo Diff Cover just dissipates heat away from the diff, kind of like a Heat Sink on a CPU in a computer. Its just supposed to make the heat travel out of the diff. If you look at the claims on the Nismo Diff Cover I believe it states that and also supposed to increase the Diff Oil due to the cooler temps...someone correct me if I am wrong...

As stated above it basically just works as a heat sink. The fins help to spread out the heat and thus transfer it to the air easier. Multiple small surfaces will dissipate heat better than one large surface. We use them quite often.

I ordered mine from Z1. It came with stud in the picture, but missing the 'L' thingy breather tube (see red arrow). Do I need both?

How far do the fins hang down? When I jack my car up, I usually lift from the differential. Will I break them off?

Just dont jack from that part of the diff, just use the actual pumpkin and not the cover.

That's easier said than done. These cars are pretty low and I barely am able to get the jack to the pumpkin.

done and done.......pretty much sums it up...

i agree as after drift runs ive actually climbed under the car and placed my hands on the oem diff cover to feel the heat.......and the Nismo cover does dissipate the heat and make the diff overall cooler..

As for jacking, I jack from drivers side REAR Toe hook.........done it many times and its quite strong spot for jacking.....my jack lifts the entire rear off the ground enough to do rear wheel changes at drift events.....

so i wouldn't care to jack from the diff......

i got mine about 2 weeks ago, any idea how to get the breather pipe (l shaped pipe as stated above) in to the actual diff? i figured the diff being aluminum i could heat it up to expand, and cool down the breather to contract so itd fit, but no luck. wtf fail

^ You need to make a drive tool. I made one from a small piece of pipe from Home Depot. It cost me about $3 and 15 mins of grinding with a cut off wheel. I'll post pics up later today. Basically, you cut a channel out of the pipe for the bend/nipple part of the vent to fit into...similar to an O2 sensor removal socket.

You could also try to freeze the vent in your freezer over night. You shouldn't have heated the cover itself. If you used a torch, you may have distorted the vent hole.

I froze my breather tube, and tapped it in with a brass drift. Simple.
