Default Just switched from conventional to mobile1 full synthetic, and car feels NEW!

Despite all the rumors about switching to synthetic oil after using conventional oil, I did it, and my car feels and drives alot better for some reason. Just bought my car a few weeks ago with 68k miles on it, and wasnt sure what type of oil the previous owner was using. After doing extensive research, I decided to go with Mobile1 10-30w full synthetic for my 1st oil change. The engine feels much more fluent and smoother. It also feels like it has much better response at higher rpm's than before.

Anyone else notice a signifigant difference after switching from conventional to synthetic?

do you know how long the previous oil was used in the car, or even what kind of oil was used? my guess is it was overdue for an oil change and that is the difference you are feeling.

typically you will not feel a difference.

.. or the placebo effect. surely you need to feel good about spending twice as much on your oil.

as for david - he's pretty funny if you stop being bitter, and he's amazingly helpful if you don't ask moronic questions. just have to take the sarcasm with a grain of salt.

No. I have no idea what was used in it before. The car was obtained used with 68k miles.

Edit: The car was previously running on 10-30w castrol gtx

actually, other than the 0w40, Mobile 1 is one of the more poorer choices when it comes to synthetics for the VQ motor. go read the oil analysis sticky.

Considering the previous owner used Castrol gtx 10-30w conventional oil for the majority of the cars life, i dont see how Mobile 1 can be a poorer choice.

what basis are you going off of? people send in oil samples for testing quite often. there is a sticky with all sorts of results that will allow you to pick one of the better oils for your car. mobile 1 is OK at best for the VQ, I believe the castrol gtx samples even provided better results.

there is a lot of info in that thread, you would be doing yourself a favor to read through it. I picked up a good bit of knowledge from it.

Looked at the oil comparison chart, and to be honest, i dont know what all those numbers mean. What is the best oil for the VQ engine in YOUR opinion?

I do not have a good answer for that question - but you should read the thread so that you can understand the #s from the samples, it will help you pick a good oil to use for your VQ.

I use castrol GTX surprisingly enough. I have seen samples with better results, but the results are good enough for me and I am a man of habitual use, I used it in my 68 Camaro and was pleased to see that the results were better then average in the VQ.

I love data, and this analysis is better than a simple statement, however, with only one data point on the Castrol, I wouldn't write a thesis about the results.

Yep, only one sample there with mobile having more data/samples to go off of. just providing what I was able to find - it is not perfect by any means as you mentioned.
