Default Clutch Wear Test?

My clutch isnt engaging like it used to in first gear and it seems like there is a possibility that its worn or close to wearing out. What is the best way to check that the clutch is still good or if its worn/wearing out? I have heard of a few different ways but they are from musclecar drivers so I dont know if the methods translate. My friends recommended putting it in 3rd revving to 2500-3000 and dropping the clutch. It didnt stall out but instead jerked pretty violently and drove forward slowly. Any ideas?

I put a car in 5 or 6th at 20 mph, clutch out, then floor it. If the clutch is slipping, then engine will rev, otherwise it will bog down and slowly accelerate from there.

Only if it's slipping And then it's a moot point.

I have a follow up question to this wear issue.

Mine feels like it might be slipping some, not sure if this is a good test or not, but I punch the gas when in 4th gear or higher(probably around 30mph) and the revs bounce a couple hundred RPM's, is that bad slippage? Any way to know how much time you have before it HAS to be replaced.

As much as I would like the JWT clutch flywheel combo since it's cheaper and better performance I am not crazy about the cement mixer sound. But I am also not ready to drop $2400 freaking dollars at a dealership to install a stock combo.

any slippage is bad slippage sir. It doesn't have to be replaced until the car doesn't move, it's just inconvenient when that time comes.

I tested in 4th gear at 20 and 25 mph and also 5th gear and the RPM's don't budge much it mostly bogs down.

On a new clutch will it actually not budge at all? It would almost seem they would have to bump at least 100 rpm.

I think if you're just seeing the rpm's bounce, it's normal stuff. Could be due to the dual mass flywheel springs giving. If you hear the engine speed increase when it bounces up, then it's probably slipping and has some wear on it.
My tach bounces at times when I shift or give some gas. I'd say, nothing to worry about.

Whew that's good to hear, I know it has to be worn some, sometimes when I shift it seems to catch a little later than normal, and it's wierd that the shudder is completely gone on starting out now. But yeah I don't hear the engine rev up at all, the tach just bounces and the engine lugs like you would expect.

From the beginning this one has been a softer clutch than the 2004 I had originally.

Thanks I won't worry about it until I see more signs of wear.

Hoping to trade in at some point for a 2010 370ZR!!!!!

Preferrably before I drop money on a clutch, LOL
