Default Throttle Body Cleaning

Hi I searched but I am a bit confused still.. I have an 03 and I just took off my intake and I noticed my throttle body is pretty dirty. Some say I cant move the throttle plate or else the idle will get messed and some say you can but you just need to disconnect the battery which one is right ?

most likely your idle will fck up, even dealerships have problems fixing this issue.... my dealership fcked up my idle when they replaced that plastic valve cover gasket or whatever you call it, and they kept the car for a whole day just fixing the idle.....

friggin mess, they couldnt even figure out what was wrong for like 4 hours, I told them right off the bat it was the throttle body and I said I knew it was gonna happen, guy asks me where I know this from.... I go the G and Z forums, he kinda laughed in my face, but believe you me, when I came back to pick the car up, after it was fixed he wasn't laughing this time...

1.Disconnect your battery
2.Clean the throttlebody with throttle body cleaner ( from local auto shop )
You can also open butterfly and clean real good. I do recommand clean it reallly good.
3. Put everything back on.
4. connect the battery
5. turn ign on and press brake for 30 seconds
6. turn ign off
7. Bring your clock that you can count seconds.
Follow this.

if you mess during process, you can do it over again. Just make sure you have a clock on the side.

You are Done.

take it to a dealership for sure!!

I've seen plenty of people over the forums follow the steps to the letter, and still not fix it....
the dealership at least is obligated to fix it for you, it means you don't have to stress out doing it yourself if it goes wrong.... and most likely it WILL go wrong, the general opinion on the forums about the throttle body is that it's very very picky, even slightly dicking around with it will whack your idle out of place.....

just do a title search for "Throttle Body" and see for yourself at all the threads and problems people were having...

ok, you guys had luck with it on the first try.... that's great!

I'm not trying to be a smart *** here, all I'm stating is facts... if you do a title search for Throttle Body and read through those threads, you'll see that there's a LOT of people who have had nothing but problems with the throttle body fkin up their idle....
and most of these people had to try a few different solutions to fix their idle

so if you guys want the OP to take your advice, fine with me... but chances are very high that he won't get it right the first time just like many of the guys in those threads...

doesn't it make more sense to let the dealership deal with this issue

I had to do the above after installing my intake spacer and cleaning my throttle body. Don't be a pu$$y and take it to a dealer. Also i would say install a spacer/thermal intake gasket and clean the TB at the same time. It makes more sense as you can just clean the TB while its attached to the plenum and clean the plenum out at the same time while the entire assembly is out of the engine bay.

it makes sense to let the dealership do it IF YOU HAVE WARRANTY

I didn't think I had to add that because it's already common knowledge you should never take your car for repairs to a dealership when you're paying out of pocket

What sort of Canadian dealer covers cleaning a TB under warranty unless it is causing an issue? I know that in US that would never happen at any dealership.

i give up on you.

Also, you said your dealer f*cked up your idle, and telling OP to take it to dealer? And you seen plenty of people on this forum follow the steps to the letter and still not fix it? Read TQ page again, they recommand count the time while you doing it. Have you ever try? If you miss two seconds or one second you gotta do it over again. Also Not only TB can cause idle issue. It can cause by air volume or leak or some other.

I just finished doing this.. disconnected the battery took the throttle body off cleaned it put everything back on and put a new gasket on. I got no CEL and did not do the re learn thing but the car drove fine just like before (No more shaking) and revs seem to be smoother. I am glad I never paid the dealership to do this (they wanted $189 CAD)

I have removed and replaced my throttle body several times without any problems. I don't disconnect the battery, but I don't move the throttle plate either.

I think the problem comes from keeping power to the ECU and changing the throttle blade's position. You're probably OK moving the throttle plate as long as the power (battery) is disconnected. I would make sure the throttle plate was in the same position it was in when I removed the throttle body if possible... probably fully closed.
