I'm not a Z owner yet (unfortunatly) but I do hope the car i able to do over 260 km/h (about 162 mph) without the limiter. I used to own a S2k (completely stock) and it were able to make 260 km/h, I even reached 265 km/h once (about 165 mph) on a slight downhill, my girlfriend took a photo . The 350z should be able to do a little better considering it's stronger and is a coupé which should mean lower drag.

Is it possible/easy to remove the limiter from the 350Z?

I'm hoping to buy a 350Z soon (Nissan hasn't released them in Sweden yet). It seems lika a great sports car.

Magnus

If wind resistance increases exponentially as you gain speed, a 20mph tailwind would be worth it's weight in gold. You could be doing 150 while the resistance only felt like 130. hmm.

speed governor can, and IS, removed with an ecu upgrade.

Ummm, 158 on the Jersey turnpike, i was doing like 75 till a boxster and a s2k flew by me i couldnt resist i passed BOTH by the way!!!

And my friend with a 6mt has hit 161 on the same stretch of the turnpike i believe the faster you gfet up to that speed to faster you can prolly hit, objects in motion stay in motion, with more force the speed limiter can be passed !!! IMO

The only way for him to go that fast is to either removed the speed limiter or to be going downhill. The idea of objects staying in motion includes that they will unless acted on by another force. In this case the car continues to accelerate until the engine is cut-off via the limiter, and then wind-resistance, friction, and gravity would be the forces acting to slow the car down. By saying that you have to hit the limiter with "more force" implies that the other people in this thread were not at W.O.T. when they were acheiving these speeds and rather leisurly reached them at half throttle on accident on the way to the grocery store. Besides, the limiter isn't a physical object it's a computer that watches the wheel speed until it is >= 155 not just equal. If it were equal than yes, going down hill with gravity pushing you past the point of limitation you would then be able to continue to accelerate but in this case it constantlly checks to ensure that this does not happen.

Your friend lied to you.

Sorry that this thread has begun to include other cars than a Z, but here is my top speed, in an Acura 3.2TL, NON-Type S. It was in a 2000, before the Type-S was out. And no, I did not take the picture, passenger did. From the speedo, looks to be about 146/147.... probably more like 140 since speedos are normally off a good bit, and by nature, the error is a % of speed...

So far only 117. I was showing my young cousin what torque was. He has an 98 civic with a fart can. We ran out of road. My cousin yells "Man, this things gets up to 117 real quick".

Did some calculationos on what top speed the car could reach. Taking into consideration tire size and gears ratios (6 speed). The car is capable of 181. Now we just need the power to propel the car to these speeds.

Went to vegas did weekend

On the way there I managed to reach a speed of 155 (slight incline).

On the way back I pushed it twice once on level surface got it to 157 going against a Z06 (guy gave me the thumbs up) I know I couldn't beat him but it was fun trying.

Then on a downhill the speedo read 161.

Default Is the fuel cutoff more complex than 155MPH = no more fuel?

I have seen 114 (or more) MPH every time I drive on the freeway.

Pegged out 5th gear to 147 MPH - this is a strong car and its .28 drag coefficent slices through the air!

Too lazy to read all the pages in the thread...

In order to explain people exceeding the cars 'fuel cutoff' we must consider incline/decline and the possibility that power adders are allowing the Z to reach greater speeds while operating at fewer revolutions per minute. (This is the same reason that K&N can claim better mileage) With greater power on hand the Z can reach highway speeds with less gas pedal travel / increased engine effiency.

never gone past 120mph in my g35c (love it too much)

hit an indicated 150mph on the nissan speedo in my altima SE twice

hit 150mph dozens of times in my R1, never quite reached 160mph though.

This is not possible, not quite anyways, b/c if it is in gear, there is no way to travel at any speed and not have the RPMS where they would be in any incline of a road. Any given speed while in a specific gear will corespond to an exact RPM.

RPM is the engine at work. On any decline the engine does less work in order to maintain the same speed as on a flat plane.

While on a decline the car can travel at higher speeds and lower rpms because gravity is assisting forward motion.

Your theory sounds more like the wheels RPMs must always correspond to an exact speed. Go drive up/down some hills then get back to me.

EDIT: Did someone from Kansas just argue something to do with travelling up/down hills

HA!
So I did make the statment about hills.... But I lived in Flordia for 23 years.... oh wait, hehe.....

However.... it is not possible that sometimes a car could be going... suppose 50mph at 2500rpm, but other times, in the same gear, it could go 55mph at 2500rpms. this is impossible.... unless of course you change tire/wheel size, or if your clutch is slipping very badly!!

I noticed something a little different. I wonder if they changed the speed limiter on the '04 models? I have tried this several times, and I get the same results. Its on an outter freeway here in Hesperia / Victorville California. The road is definately a down hill road ... maybe 1 or 2 percent grade. But when I hit 149, thats it. I can keep it there until I run out of road (about 30 seconds), but I cannot get past 149. Any ideas? Could it be the gas I'm using? It is an automatic ... could that be it? I have an Enthusiast as well, but that shouldn't matter, should it?

Same here...I've been completely flooring it, but it just won't go any faster...
