P0340 Code Thrown Plus Other Electrical Issues
Here's the rundown... It's long but any help is very much appreciated...
A couple of weeks ago I was driving to the movies with a buddy and about 90 seconds after I started my car I noticed that the screen on the head unit was blank. The music was still playing, but the climate control automatically turned to auto and 77 degrees (I believe this is default temp setting). I could still control the audio with steering controls, but none of the radio or HVAC controls work (they do light up). Since then they have come back to life twice for about 6-7 seconds along with the screen and then malfunction again.
Fast forward to this morning... it was the second time that the problem corrected itself for 6 seconds and returned when I started my car to leave Charlotte for LaFayette. I get down the road 100+ miles and stop for gas. Upon re-entering my car and starting, it takes a while to turn over. It has a long crank time, but does start. So I drive it out of the pumps and park and turn the car off and try again. Same thing. Turns for probably 4-5 full seconds before starting. Thats when I notice that it has thrown a code and the SLIP and VDC OFF lights are on. I'm in the middle of nowhere off of I-85 half way between home and home so I freak, but I find a Autozone 13 miles away and make it there.
The code is P0340. After doing some searching it sounds like it could be the Cam Position Sensor but while driving the car runs perfect. No rough idle or jerking, just the retarded start. I am asking if you guys think the Radio/HVAC Control issue and the slow start issue could be related, and if you think it actually is the CMP Sensor or maybe just a short.
Print out from diagnostic reads:
Definition:
Camshaft position sensor (CMP or PHASE) circuit bank 1.
Probable Cause
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Faulty starter motor
4. Faulty CMP sensor
5. Engine mechanical condition
Any feed back is much appreciated...
Thanks,
