Default Free Floating Flywheel

I talked to my local dealer and they said that if I get an aftermarket clutch, it has to be a free floating one. The quote for the flywheel was $1000. I see other ones for less than half that here.

Is this one a free-floating one?

The flywheel is coupled to the drive shaft. How does it float?

You dont need an aftermarket flywheel to run an aftermarket clutch. Usually service writers do not have much knowledge about cars or the product.Next time you have a service writer say something that you are not sure of, talk to your technician directly and get the facts.

Dual mass flywheels have a free floating portion from the crank. Single mass do not. Maybe that's what your dealer is talking about. There are pros and cons of each. Duals dampen the noise from the Z's drivetrain, single's are noisy but lighter. They probably wanted you to buy a stock dual mass flywheel for $1000.
