Question Shaky shift ****?

First off, I tried searching and found nothing soo... I own a 2003 6MT, and ever since i got it the shift **** is, like, shaky? Anywhere anytime it is constantly wiggling, but never pops out of gear or anything. Just kinda like when your hand is cold and shaking, thats what my shift **** is doing. It kind of sketches me out, but i know there are some other funky things our z's do that are supposedly normal.

Just looking for any advice or ideas. Thanks

How about a slight hum shifting from 1 - 2 - 3 - 4... Clutch also makes strange noise when not pushed in, resembling a quieter immitation of a car trying to start, but read that was normal.

Haha, just a noisy beast she is then. However is there anything to reduce the noise?

is that throwout bearing noise?

mine doesn't make any noise.

The shifter moves around sometimes when i'm on or off the gas but it doesn't shake. I lost some wheel weights on one of my wheels and it was shaking at highway speed for a while but when i had my tires rotated they balanced them again and it went away.

That's not what i wanted to hear...

I did just get it from a dealership around a week ago, didn't buy extended warranty but i went and talked to them and cause i like JUST got it they will probably cover something if it needs to be changed/fixed. What do you guys suspect I should do?

how many miles? until the end of this year you're still under the 6 year (or is it 7) warranty as long as you're under 70k.

can you video it? it's probably just normal vibration from the driveline. Every manual car i've owned does this. It was HORRIBLE in my 85 f350 with a 4 speed. You couldn't even hold onto it longer than time to shift otherwise it would make your hand tingle.

Grinding and not shifting are transmission problems, vibration probably not.

Normal, normal, and normal...Try going to a single mass light weight flywheel and a six puck un-sprung clutch...you may like that better.lol

its got 70k km (roughly 35k miles?) The shifter barely moves, but I was just wondering cause in my old car it didn't move at all, although the rest of the car was terrible (04 tiburon). Would some different bushings or washers make a difference, or tighten up the shifts? I guess on the topic of bushings etc. how much of a difference do STS's make on here?

How much would a clutch like that run me?

tiburon's are front wheel drive correct?

If so then the shifter is attached through linkages and not directly bolted to the top of the transmission. That will almost eliminate the driveline vibrations and movements from the car since the linkages will just flex when the trans moves and not the whole shifting unit.

Ah that makes sense. I'm not a super smart car guy but if someone explains i can comprehend it, so thank you.

But again, how much would that clutch run me

comp clutch stage 3 is a street full face clutch around mid 400's. I run a stage 4 but it's not that great for a street clutch.

A lot of people have good opinions about the JWT clutch kits and they are around mid 400's.

400 isn't too bad. And that's prettymuch just a basic, QUIETER, DD street clutch?

i'm not sure about quiet but then again i've never had noise with my car at all.

The loud noise everyone claims to have is usually from the lightened flywheels. I run a stock heavy flywheel.

Hmm, i'll have to think then. I don't exactly want to drop like $400, only to find out the clutch is fine just noisy. What can i do besides a new clutch? Heavier flywheel?

they don't make a heavier flywheel.

what are you trying to do? any rwd car is going to have driveline vibration in the shifter. The whole engine/trans will rock and move as you're on or off power and when the shifter is right bolted to the trans it will also move.

noise doesn't mean the clutch is bad. slipping means the clutch is bad.
