Default Newbie question: Has anyone flow tested a stock injector?

Sorry guys, I've searched, but didn't find anyone who had actually sent an injector to RC Engineering or similar company for a flow test.

I've read it's 300cc/min searching around here, but that's at 3.5bar, correct? I find that hard to believe, since the VQ35DE Maxima has 315cc@3.5bar injectors. Link: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=315cc

I've been told the Z and my car share the same injector part number from a Nissan parts guy and I'd like to verify this BEFORE I drop $$$$ on larger then stock 350z injectors.

Thanks!

That is the question of the day. As far as I know, nobody here actually knows the real flow rates of our injectors. We're all making SWAG's, but the reality is we're pretty clueless on this matter.

What?!??!?? No way. Hehehe. Cheston says he flowed his around 290cc, but didn't say where/how they were tested.

Anyone interested in selling ONE stock injector? Or does anybody have a SPARE and would be willing to ship it to RC Engineering if I paid for it?

Anybody have pics of the part numbers on the actual injector? I took some pics of my friends 350z injector, but couldn't make out the numbers. The injectors on my car appear IDENTICAL except color and are *SUPPOSEDLY* 240cc@3bar. Again, I'm told my injector part numbers are the same as the 350z injector number, but that would mean you guys are only getting 260ish cc's from them. I know it's possible, since I Max guys are running 300+whp with insane fuel pressures.

MaxHax on 350zmotoring has his engine pulled right now after blowing and engine with FI, so you might be able to get one from him. He's having some indecisiveness with what size injectors to go with, so you might be able to work something out with him. Also bluefish on this board would probably be able to give you a part number seeing as how they (Smithtown Nissan) have done some serious mods to their Z.

Thanks....I'll PM them.

BTW, why do people not like the RC Engineering injectors spray pattern vs. the Denso(PE?)?

Actually I believe that's the REPLACEMENT part number for both the 350z and my car.

The stock injector is made by Unisia JECS part#166005L700. However, I found another part number, but I haven't confirmed anywhere else for the 350z and that's Bosch #166002Y915.

How much does it cost to flow test? Maybe I'll send one of mine if it's cheap enough to test.

http://www.rceng.com/service.htm

The charge for RC Engineering's standard clean-flow-balance service is $24.00 - $28.50 per injector, depending on the type of injector. If overnight shipping is used, the turnaround time is three days.

The standard is 3bar, but since he's "quoting" Nissan, it's most likely at the operating pressure of 3.5bar.

287 cc at the factory service manual suggested pressure.

If anyone is serious about finding out how the stock injectors flow I will make a one time offer. Send me a complete set and I will get more data from them than you have ever seen. I will run voltage sensitivity, dynamic range (linearity), static flow rate vs pressure (2.5-5 bar), spray distribution, etc. I will flow them on both injector calibration fluid (Viscor 16A) and n-Heptane which is much closer to gasoline.

I will need the injectors for at least a week to get all the data. The data will be in a spread sheet form and I will make it available to everyone on the forum. I am not interested in just one injector as I want to see how well grouped they are. I would prefer low mileage injectors.

I work for an injector manufacture and we have very precise measurement capabilities. You can be assured no damage will be done to your injectors.

Email me at drg_injector@yahoo.com and I will reply with contact info. This is a one time offer, we make millions of injectors per year and are not in the business of flow testing injectors for individuals.

Wow! I WISH I had a set to send you. If I can get one or more I'll contact you.

Just curious, but would you be able to test at what duty cylce and pressure the injector goes static?

Cheston,

Would you mind sending your injectors for dr_gallup to verify that PLEASE?

Yeah, that is one of the things the dynamic range test does. In that test you hold pressure and voltage constant and vary the pulse width from 1 ms to 10 ms with a 10 ms pulse repitition rate (100 Hz). We go up in 0.2 ms intervals at the low end then 1 ms intervals from 3-7 ms and then close up the interval again at the top end to see where it goes static. We fit a straight line through the 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 ms data and look at the %deviation from linear. It's all per SAE surface vehicle recommended practice J1832: Low Pressure Gasoline Fuel Injector. The test can be repeated at different pressures and voltages to completely characterize the injector.
