Default Is it safe to jump start your Z?

I've heard a lot of newer cars its not good to jump start them because of all the electronics and etc.. I know Volkswagen specifically told us never to jump start our Passat.

How about my Z? battery died apparently (Hopefully just that) and I just wanted to make sure its safe.

I tried searching but "Jump Start" comes up with nothing related to that so just answer the question please.

I did it to mine a few months back rolling down a hill after I parked it and the battery died. It's been fine ever since.

Just make sure you secure the negative first then the positive to more effectively prevent turning your Z into a hybrid

Lets think about it for a minute more than half the cars on a dealers lot are dead from sitting for long periods of time and they all use jump boxes. Lets not be so gullible. You'd probably let your car sit for months instead of jump starting because someone told you it would mess up your car

There is also a known problem with jumping the car and certain stereo headunits. I have had to have my Pioneer AVIC D1 repaired 2 times (at my expence) because there was a surge of energy that blew the backlight fuse for the touch screen. The shop I was using put it on a jump box and blew me off on repaying me for the repair even though it was their fault proven by pioneer. It is also happened on the first run of D2's.

I've been round and round with pioneer about this and they say its my responsibility to make sure its jumpstarted correctly and they will not fix a known problem on any stereo that has been replaced by a newer model.

So be carful on jumping the car.

^^ I'm curious as to why this is because isn't jump starting a flat battery just like putting a new one in? If that was the case, every time you replaced your battery you'd blow that fuse?

Using a jump box is a little diffrent than jumping a flat battery. It puts a surge of amprage down the line to kick over the battery after its hooked up. with the car off and attaching the batery to jump the battery acts as a surge tank preventing power from running down the line uncontrolled.

The jump box is not ment to charge the battery, its ment to send a surge down the line to kick over the starter; not charge the battery. It seems they had the ignition in the acc position when the box was hooked up so it pushed power to the whole system.

I've never had issues with jumping from a battery but jump boxes have been bad news for me. Ohms law is a bisnatch.
