That sounds like you didn't shift through all the gears repeatedly before tightening down the guide plate...

so what tips are there when installing a SS? because ive heard wrapping tape around it to reduce vibrations and grease on it

I bought a stillen for my z and I love it. Easy install. Really quiet and hardly any vibration. Only problem was it says the stock shift **** will fit but I couldnt seem to get mine to thread back on so I now have to find a new shift ****.

$200 on a short shifter? Spend your money on something else bud.

For a z thats not that bad. Especially since parts for a z ar more expensive than most cars.
