J-matic is the only one you should you use. Any other fluids can damage your clutches, actual metal etc.

It is the only fluid nissan recommends, however there are better alternatives out there. Just because Nissan says its the only "authorized" doesnt mean you have to get it.

I run Mobil 1 with no problems whatsoever. Royal P is overrated, and Amsoil is good as well. Never heard of the Redline.

As per last comment, do you have any proof/examples of this occuring?

Yep. My friends 06 Z. He threw some Royal Purple synthetic ATF fluid and no lie his tranny went 3 months after. We ripped it apart and his clutches looked like shyt! Mind you there wasn't anything wrong before the flush. Dont want that crap happening to you guys man.
Personally I would stick with the stock specs because these trannies suck ballz to begin with

Quoted from another forum:

"Amsoil far exceeds nissans standards for what they require from a fluid. Matic-J is part synthetic (now they have matic s which is full synthetic) and amsoil/Mobil 1, etc far exceeds nissan standards and is full synthetic.

Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act you don't have to worry about nissan trying to deny you warranty on your tranny for not using their fluid because legally they can't. legally they cant force you to buy their products and can't deny you warranty for using a fluid that meets or exceeds their standards. its nothing new that an auto maker will have its own standard of fluid the only difference is ford lincoln and mercury aren't trying to say you can only use ford fluids, they use mercon, gm isn't saying you can only use gm fluid, they use dexron.

Matic j is actually made by castrol then nissan slaps its name on it and says you can only by this. matic j is actually Castrol transmax j which they made to work in all JASO 1A spec Japanese auto trannys, Pennzoil ATF-J is also the same thing made to JASO 1A spec and IDEMITSU ATF HP is what is used in japan as the standard JASO 1A spec fluid which is also all the same fluids that subaru calls for in their trannys. matic j really isn't this magical fluid that so many people seem to think it is its just JASO 1A spec and there are plenty of fluids that meet or exceed that spec that you can use no problem."

As for your friend, i have no idea. Royal purple is said to be very thin and complete garbage, so it wouldnt suprise me.

I know Redline has very good fluid for the manual. I've gone from stock, Redline, Amsoil, and back to Redline. It's definitely good stuff but in regards to manuals, you have to mix the thinner oil with the thicker oil to get a more suitable thickness.

I wouldnt use Royal Purple anything!!!!!!
Amsoil and all the rest are now manufactured to meet or exceed J-matic specs.
Remember its a spec not a brand of fluid!

That's because you had the CD-008 automatic transmission, the CD-009 automatic transmission is much better.
