Default Best spark plugs???

I'm looking for opinions for the best plugs to use for a stock (NA) configuration except CAI and headers. I've had my dealer set the timing +2 degrees, so I'm now set to 17 degrees BTDC at idle.

This will most likely refund your money then.

The best plugs IMHO are Denso Iridium or NGK Iridiums. Platinums are just as good. Iridium sounds cool though.

For a while manufactures have favored platinum for their high melting point, their long life, and performance. Iridium is a precious metal that has a melting point of 1,200F higher than platinum and it conducts electricity better. Iridium plugs also are 8 times stronger than platinum and it is 6 times harder than platinum too. Now you can see why the Denso Iridium plugs are the superior choice.

Anyone know off the top of their head what the OEM plugs are? I'm assuming they're NGKs...

stock plugs are best - you won't notice any difference, real or peceived, unless your plugs are in actual need of being changed (at which point, the difference you are feeling is the fact that you have new plugs, not what the plug materail is made of)

Just finished installing DENSO Iridium IKH16. Too soon to comment. Specification against "Normal" plugs is impressive at acceleration to 150 km/h. A gain of 0.7 seconds Vs "Normal" plug. Are the OEM plugs considered "Normal"? Ordered 6 from Frank at www.clubplug.net.

I appreciate all the feedback, but I have to call "Bull$#!t" on this. I can't see any way that a change in spark plugs can give you this kind of performance gain. Over half a second? Come on!!

I hope you can prove this. If so, I'll buy a set for every car I own.

You asked for "feedback"! I told you I just installed. The specification (i.e. 0.7) were so stated on the box the plugs were shipped in. Some additional information relative to fuel consumption, but with you considering it "Bull$#!t", I must suggest ......

Must apologize for my initial reply!

Did some research! I am going to let you let your fingers do the walking. Go to: http://www.denso.co.jp/en
Then go to: "Products", followed by "Automotive Components" then at last "Iridium Spark Plugs". Enjoy the reading "Bull$#!t"

Ron,

OK, I went to the Denso site and I see exactly what they are saying. Their test was performed on some unspecified vehicle (can I assume motorcycle driven by a suicidal midget ) that had a 250cc 2 stroke motor.

If you think for a second that you would see anything like these performance gains on our 3200 lb. V6 cars, then I have a case of 'Vornados' that I'd like to sell you.

I'm not trying to be a butt here, and man, I was really hoping that I was wrong and that these plugs could actually give our car these sorts of power gains.

I do appreciate your feedback and if you had qualified the test a little better, I wouldn't have gotten on your case.

Has anyone here tested these on the drag strip, or at least with a G-Tech?

Granted, we sell the Iridium plugs, primarily due to customer demand, but the one thing notoriously missing in all the plug tests is: was the baseline done with fresh plugs, or the ones already in the subject vehicle. If it was fresh plugs, and a fresh set of "XX" Iridium's madea difference, different story.

if on the other hand they were the plugs already in the vehicle (who knows, they could be tired/worn at that point), than ANY fresh plug, be it platinum, Iridium, SplitFire, or what have you will show a gain........

We'll still sell the Iridium's for the mere point that they do work well, we have gotten good life so far, and they do seem to resist misfiring more than standard copper. However, a nice fresh set of copper NGK's work very well as well, and given that the original poster has relatively minor mods, stock is probably best.

NGK copper does work very well, but iridium will work better, because I tried both on my car before. BTW, NGK has iridium plugs too. I will get that as soon as my NGK copper went out. (I had DENSO Iridium before my current NGK copper)
