Angry How bad was this for my car?

I just bought a 2003 touring with 38K miles on the 10th from a local Chevy dealer. It had a couple minor issues that I spotted before I bought the car that they were going to take care of. I dropped it off yesterday and went to pick it up tonight. They said wait outside and they will bring it around.

Fifteen minutes later here comes my car and the manager is driving it. Right away he says look I just wanted to let you know the guy was trying to back it in 5th and that's what the smell is. Let me tell you the car was SMOKING. I said GD man what hell was he thinking?!? I really was speechless at this point. I couldn't believe someone is that stupid to sit there and let it get that bad. I told him they ruined my clutch and he said he's been working on cars for 25 years and if they drove it around for 5 hours like that it would ruin it but not in that short of time and it would be fine.

So I'm no mechanic but I know when you smell something like that and it's smoking that it's not a good sign. I've been driving stick for 15 years and have had a bad clutch in a car so I know how to tell when it's bad and it wasn't slipping or anything when I left but how many miles do you think they just took off it or is it ok you think?

Thanks

SOUNDS LIKE ******** SOMEONE WOULD MAKE UP,
i work for a service dept, and i used to sell cars

the entire system behind it is ALL ********, and the salesmanagers are the
best at it.

first lets think off all the things that make a car start smoking
"fuel injection cleaning", blown head gasket, coolant or oil leaking onto
hot metal,

if it was truely "smoking" then hes lying to cover up something

if it "smelled bad enough to believe it was smoking", then thats believeable

someone probably didnt know how to drive stick, treid too and burnt your clutch, and the manager said "Quit trying that let me do it",
he probably said "someone was trying to back up in 5th" because he didnt want to say , "the guy pulling your car around doesn't know how to drive stick"

if its your clutch and it got burned up a little ,
DONT TRIP

there built to take a little slippage, and theres no difference between one that has been burned up a little, and one that has not.

Your 350z is fine, enjoy

Yea you're right I might have thought it was smoking because the smell was so thick in the car I thought it was. Either way I have never smelt a clutch that bad. The only time I smelt one even close is when I was trying to get my x gf's 150K mile accord up onto some skids to do some work on.

Either way I feel better now that you said it's not trashed. I've been pissed all night since I left there thinking that I should have thrown my keys back at him and told him to put a new clutch in there. I kept thinking of me standing there waiting for my car to be brought around while they are trashing it in the back. I take care of my stuff. I fix everything that is broke on my things and to have some idiot sit there and #@$% up my new (to me) car just grinds my gears (pun intended).

They did help you determine which shop you won't bring it to if you ever need work done.
