Thanks Ron for orchestrating the activities and for taking down meticulous stats. Also KONVERTER desreves the credits for the sound level measurements. It was a fun day.

A couple corrections above in bold. Note, Steve also has Borla Headers and LBMS highflow cats.

I learned a few things today:

1. I'm running lean and need ECU tuning. And, my MAF sensor was unaffected by the K&N airfilter.
2. Expected 6.5 + 12 + 10 = 28.5 hp gains. But, 255 - big assumption of 237 stock =18 hp. So, the expected gains don't just add up, something I already knew or, some of my mods don't add as much as dynoed elsewhere.
3. Technosquare's ECU makes the air/fuel a very nice straight line which is a good thing.
4. Crawford's plenum may or may not be doing anything. One subject of conversation was the difference between constant flow under flow bench vs pulse flow under engine usage. Another was how Nissan would have done this properly in the first place, this a point already brought up by someone I've spoken with "in the know." But, all of the ATI pistons with blown heads were in the rear suggesting that the lean condition took place in the rear and not in the front where the Crawfords are supposed to improve airflow. I was confused about this. If it's lean in the back, that means too much air and not enough fuel in the back. I hope I don't have that backwards. I suppose that means that the backs get more airflow than the fronts and that the Crawford plenum is doing what it's supposed to be doing by providing more flow to the front two cylinders. I still don't know the answer to this one with certainty.
5. Either the UR pullies rock or, ZxSaint has a monster car.
6. Adding highflow cats/test pipes to cams can make 19 hp.
7. My flywheel has lost a lot of the gravel sound per MastaPastaZ . The JWT revs great and drops great and my exhaust and LBMS testpipe with resonator sound great and have no rasp per ZxSaint.
8. I want the JWT ECU and I have to reconsider the UR pullies.

looks like Borla TD and UR pulleys are my next mods (are pulleys a do it yourslef project, or a MECHANIC MUST??)

I am not sure I agree, with the Crawford thing, but I will let those guys answer that, I actually felt a bigger difference with my Crawford than with my test pipes. I think that the plenum is supposed to make the drop off in power at readline, not there, and that is what I feel. I am sure those guys will respnd on the engine forum

OK... I dont understand how a car with a supercharger has so much less HP than a N/A car. Seems to me that it should be the other way around. Second. I didnt think underfrive pullies made that big of a difference. I would love to get test pipes but the are illegal in Texas. What is the next step I should do after the exhaust, intake, and headers? Thanks

JWT ECU won't be out till next year.

Technosquare is the only U.S. programmers as of now.

Mr Twisted/Ron:

Sounds like you all all had a great day and put down some terrific numbers. Z's just keeps getting better all the time with all the available new mods. You guys did well I wish I could have made it there. I will next time.

See you after SEMA.

I spoke with Jim Wolf, he said December for a FI project. NA afterwards. But, you're probably right, I don't think we will see anything until next year too. But, I still want it!

Kudos to Technosquare for doing a good job with the consistant air/fuel ratio. That's very important if you are trying to avoid a lean or rich condition. And, it makes for a good reason to buy the TS ECU aside from changing the rev limiter and top speed limiter.

I had a great time it was nice meeting you all, and seeing some of you again...

The SPL meter was Mr. Twisted's... He deserves the credit for that idea. I was just runnin the damn thing... I wish I had my ear plugs...

Jeff's Performance Nissan Z and I think his name was Keng's Track w/ Nismo Cams / Intake / Headers / High Flow Cats / Nismo Exaust both NEED to be tuned. They were running VERY lean... Kengs car was Pinging... I know Jeff will be taking care of that after Sema with a new ECU...

and WOW am I excited to see that ECU on Jeff's car after seeing how PERFECT SoCalKids A/F ratio was...

I wonder if Jeff's car didnt put out as much horse power as it could also because of his Nismo LSD set at 80%... Would that require more HP/TQ to get more to the wheels... In other words.. Will a tighter LSD exadurate the drivetrane loss?

That was a really fun event!! Thanks to all of those who took part. Sign me up for all future dyno days and I'll keep trying different mod's and see where it takes us. We have something coming up for a the car that we will build this summer. But, for now after this dyno day I learned a few things..... First you NEVER would have got me to put in U.D. pulleys as it's just a waste of money........ okay, put that one where the sun don't shine, I'm putting in U.D. pulleys Monday before I head out to SEMA. Second, my car is running so lean it's to the point of damaging the engine. I have an appointment with Techno Square after SEMA as they could not get to me before that. I will take it to the same dyno on the way back from Techno Square to see what... if.... there are any improvements. I was surprised by the fact my car was the loudest of the group?? Doesn't sound that loud on the inside. Of all the cars and numbers, I think KONVERTER's car surprised me the most. Guess there's something to be said for beating your car to death..... My baseline bone stock with 40 miles on the clock was 232hp (different dyno). Also Mr. Twisted's auto did better than I thought it would. I was under the impression there was more drivetrain loss than that. Great event, thanks all!!! Jeff

not "keng", khang

power-wise, i have the exact same mods as jeff minus the high flow cats. put down 251/237. even my stock dyno was similar to jeff's: 233/232 (on a diff. dyno). maybe my car is the older twin of jeff's

i guess my #'s are to be expected based on jeff's previous dynos. i've always known the stock cats were choking my car. that needs to be changed....

also, my a/f was leaning out like crazy after ~5k, and yes it did ping once where the tech had to let off the gas; evident on the dyno sheet. i'll post it up once i scan it. i was hoping to hold off on the TS ecu 'til next year, but i'm gonna have to get my a/f in check here for buttonwillow in dec. but of course i'll let jeff be the guinea pig first

you've sold me on the cats jeff....hold a pair for me on the 11th when i'm at your dealership

all in all, it was a fun day. wish i didnt drag my gf with me, she looked kinda bored i'll be at the stillen dyno day on the 15th since i would have installed my high flow cats by then. jeff, will you be there? TS should be done with your car by then....

My dyno before the high flow cat's was 249hp, so yes, the bottleneck with all the Nismo mod's is there!! Of course I'll sell you some cat's when you come by.... but as a dealer we would never install them . Jenny and I will be at Stillen as well.
