Default engine dies

I've asked about this issue before but didn't really get a possible diagnosis, but that was before things took another step in the wrong direction, so here i go asking again... (SORRY FOR THE LONG POST)
yesterday, i went to a store, about a 15 min drive on the highway, parked and went to the shops for 20 min. When I came back i proceeded to start the car, the engine started but then the RPM's dropped and the car stalled!!!! i turned the key back out and proceeded to start the car again, and although it started, instantaneously the RPM's dropped and dipped way below normal and although the engine tried to rebound (felt like a cough) the car proceeded to die again. I started the third time, only applied a little gas and that worked. the engine started and the RPM's stayed at normal lever for a warm engine start. I drove home without a problem.
I have an 08, 5AT, no mods besides the k&n filter drop ins.
complained about this to the dealer and they said that i had leaves in my air boxes and that restricted air flow and caused the rpm's to drop at start ups. well, they took the leaves out and it still dropped RPM's on warm starts but never died, at least not until last night. Checked air box yesterday, clean.
Does anybody know what may cause this? I haven't recharged the K&N filters since installation late last summer, but they look clean upon visual inspection and i doubt that a dirty filter will cause the car to stall (perhaps perform sluggish but not stall).

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED, GUYS!!!

wow, you need to check your airbox more often if you had leaves in them...how often do you drive your car...late last summer sounds awful if the car is a DD

Only takes 3 things to keep a motor running:

Air
Fuel
Spark

One of the above is the problem.

K&N is a wet filter, check your mass air flow sensor and make sure it's clean. You may want to take some MAF cleaner to it. Should be one of the first things you check for rough/low/high idles and such.

i was just making sure with the guy, seems kind of new to the whole maintaining the engine concept

if some kind of (leaf debris)particle has already smacked the MAF sensor, it may need replacing, that may be why you are having problems

thanks for replies. i am kind of new to the whole engine thing.
the car is a weekend driver and not really used during the winter. when i said leaves, i meant, about 2-4 leaves at most at for some reason, its always the passenger side air box. i check the airbox for debris on a regular basis because i noticed things get lodged in there pretty easy! I know i fell asleep on cleaning the filters, that's done as of last night. lets see if that changes things.
if not, can someone point me in the right direction as to the location of the MAF sensor?

Thanks.

the maf sensor is located on the intake tub. It look like a plug. When you remove it be careful not to damage it and get anything on it. You can pick up a can of maf cleaner and give that a try.

I vote fuel.

maybe an injecter.

I'd say air/fuel ratio except I've never heard of air/fuel mixture probs being so acute.
