Default Questions About FI..

Im all new to this whole supercharger/turbo thing..

Im looking for good power gain but I want the upmost relability..

So my question is what well be the most reliable?
As im not expert mech. so I cant afford to be messing with it everyday if something goes wrong or needs to be adjusted..

Roots type (Stillen)
Blower type (ATI)
Turbo (PE)

I know they all need proper tuning but what goes into tuning?
What will have the least amount of problems or last the longest.

Thanx guys.. Iv been here awhile and read all post and havent seen a comparison of this type.. Its normaly just what makes more power..

Thanx guys!!!

If you want the upmost reliability then FI really isn't for you.

But if you are going into it.... the one that will last the longest is the one that is installed well, built well, and tuned well. The Stillen has pinging problems, the ATI has seen 3 blown motors, and the PE is not even out yet, so it's too early to tell.

The smartest thing for you to do is wait at least 6 months. There is a lot of new products just being released and reliability is something that must be proven.

The SportZ magazine comparision will be done in December and the article will come out in the spring issue which is in March. That article will cover the perfomance aspect of these products and test them on the same equipment and on the same day.

As far a reliability, follow the threads posted already and the ones in the near future. The Stillen and ATI SC'ers are already out. Both had promises of excellent performance and reliability.

Since their release, the Stillen has had some problems with pinging. The just installed intercooler to skk100's car maybe the solution to that problem. They increased the boost 1 lb thus will it be as reliable now? As they say, "hindsight is 20/20" thus the reason for waiting 6 months. Any company can make hp claims but dynos tell consumers if those claims are accurate. Without a warranty on the motor, it is wise to wait for a SC kit to prove it is reliable unless you have $8,000 to gamble with on your motor.

The ATI has had 3 motors blow up. Some claim it is only a tunining issue and others feel it is a product flaw. You can read threads that cover this in detail. Make your own decision on what you feel it is and if it is the SC for you.

Another suggestion is to go to webpages that have forums that discuss products. For example, superchargersonline.com has a forum that allows people to post questions and reports on SC'ers as well. Since that webpage carries many SC'ers, they are not specifically pushing only one product. They told me they do not edit posts that are negative about a product unless it just gets out of hand. You can go by product forums there and read previous owners opinions on ATI, Vortec etc. I like reading about a product such as Vortec even if it is installed on a Mustang. I can see if they had a lot of problems and when they did have a problem, did they fix it. I feel if a company does a good job engineering a product on one car, they are likely to do it on our Z's and if they back their products well on a Ford or Honda, they will most likely do the same for us.

I think if you read about these companies in these type of forums, you can see which products tend to have problems and which ones do not as well as what type of serice you will get.

As for the Dreamworks SC and PE, those are also not released thus waiting for them to come out and be installed by other owners is wise. You seem to not be a risk taker so just wait. With your personality, it would be the wise choice.

Jeff

The Vortech system is second to none in the Honda world when it comes to reliability out of the box.
