Custom Extend Heat Shield
When I installed my intake system, I noticed that my Filter was a little long or my piping was a little long, So i had to take that black tubing out where air goes in by the front bumper. After that I notice there were a gap and it is allowing the hot air coming in, especially when the fan kick on, then I really notice all the hot air was getting blown in where the filter is.
So, I came up with some ideas, and when to Home Depot bought a roll of the sheet metal, it was very flexable and easy to cut.
First I used card board paper to cut out the exact fitment of it, then I draw it on the metal sheet and then cut it out. To my surprised, it fit perfect!!!
It even cover all the way to the side where is not cover before. I feel like it is almost completely seal. I'm planning to find some thin foam and cut something out to fit over where the tube is, so it would look like the filter will reside in a little chamber by itself. Now, I trying to figure out a way to make sure the shield won't move at all. Even thought it is somewhat attached to the other heat shield that I got, I still want to make it so it would not move at all. Should I use double sided tape or use a screw to hold it? Any suggestion? The only concern I have using screw is that I'm not sure if that is O.K. to drill that front bumper area?
here is a pic w/o the extend heat shield, notice a lot of gap.

here is another pics of what i've taking out of the port, and what the card board looks like after i formed and trim to come up with the pattern. I used part of the Jim Wolf Heat shield to hold the extend one as well. I believe that increase the air flow that's coming from the front bumper. I tested this morning on the way to work, and it definitely feel a lot better. And when I parked, I open the hood to check the filter, and it was nice and cool!! I was very happy with it.
I think you can use a short sheetmetal screw to keep the shield from moving. If you look closely at the bumper where you took off the black plastic tubing, you will see that there's about 1/8 inch thick of either plastic or fiberglass material before the metal. drill a small pilot hole then use a very short screw. You dont need to drill all the way to the metal part.
I've got some double sided tape today, and will still drill a small pilot hole to make sure it is secure. I just want to make it look clean and simple. Hopefully that will work.
