Need Help with Clutch
I have a 05 Vortech supercharged Z, with a Competition Stage 4 clutch. I was driving today and the clutch would engage real close to the floor. Then at a stoplight it lunged forward with clutch pedal all the way in and the pedal stayed at the floor by itself. I limped it home and checked the fluid and it was empty!! I jacked up the car and it looks like it was slowly leaking between the line and the banjo fitting that goes to the slave cylinder. The line is a stainless steel line and I replaced the slave cylinder two summers ago. Does anyone know if my clutch would be ruined due to no fluid, and should a line and slave replacement fix the problem? Also do slave cylinders go bad that fast? I only drive it during the summer. I dont think it was driven very long with no fluid. I dont know....any help would be appreciated.
Loss of fluid would keep the clutch from being completely disengaged when you step on the pedal. It would be hard to shift the gears like that, but it shouldn't have damaged the clutch itself in that short a time.
If the performance clutch requires more pedal pressure than the stock clutch, the cups and seals in the master and slave cylinders will probably wear a little faster.
