Ditto!

The economy is picking up rapidly, invest in High yield bonds & S&P 500 index. This way, there will be more mods out and they will be cheaper as competition grows for aftermarket Z parts.

you should buy a Spec Miata and go take a few driving lessons a a racetrack where you have to turn left AND right...

I would agree here. Start by building the motor up with better internals and possibly a stroker kit if that becomes available shortly. Then you could add Nitrous or FI at higher boost levels at a later date. The engine work + a nice shot of Nitrous should = mid to low 12s, even 11s with slicks. The Z suspension is not favorable to launching on the drag strip. You could work on the suspension to allow for more weight shifting to the rear on launch to get some better times with street tires.

Go buy a Fox-body Mustang. You can hit 10s for under $10k, including the price of the car.

Don't put $10k into the 350Z unless you really know what you're doing.. you won't hit 11s on street tires for anywhere NEAR $10k.

If I wanted to win at the strip, I don't think I would have purchased a 350Z.
Not too long ago a relatively cheap F-Body would have gotten you there. It remains to be seen whether the GTO can do it, but with all the LS1 experience and parts there, with $10K you'd probably get close.

If you chooose to go the SC route, there are other options besides the ATI mentioned. You could also go the Dream Workes mentioned as well but they did not add that they appear to be setting it up for stage 1,2, and 3 set ups thus more hp. The advantage might be with the DW SC is it is a root type blower so the hp gain will be at all rpm levels vs Vortec and ATI which differ and have most of their hp gain above 5000 rpm. This might be an issue in drag racing?

In addition, the Vortec SC is very much like the ATI set up but they claim to have a way of modifying the timing so the car does not run too lean above 5K. Some of the people on line here are claiming cylinder #6 specifically is having that problem. The Vortec can also be boosted for more hp.

To me, when I look at 0-60 times of ATI Z's, they seem to be running slower than lets say a Z06 vette with as much if not more hp yet the Z does not weigh more. Am I looking at this too simplistically or is the Z having traction problems? Guys that have the ATI claim that the SC just buries the tires if they get on it so traction sounds like an issue more than hp to improve those times beyond where they are right now. Maybe the Zo6 vette just has more low end grunt, but if that is all, why does the Z not be able to get traction?

Not to turn this into an EVO vs. 350Z thread but that was a real ignorant comment you just made. Just because you beat 2 EVOs (who's owners probably didn't know how to drive) doesn't mean they are junk. How about 11's in an EVO for about 4g's? You obviously know nothing about the 4G63.

So far one EVO has put down 525 to the wheels on the stk bottom end in an EVO. So please make sure you know what you are saying before you call a car "junk".

There are a number of reasons for this --

1. The 350Z *does* weigh more than a Z06. about 150 lbs more, which is significant. (3150 vs 3300 lbs)

2. The 350Z's independent rear suspension makes for horrible drag launches. The Supra exhibits this very same issue. A setup which is ideal for a road course is terrible when launching. From the factory, this car was setup for the road course, not the drag strip. The Z06's leaf spring setup in the rear allows for better squat and rear wheel traction in a launch, thus much better 0-60 times. When drivers get more used to the Z's suspension, 0-60 times will improve. 99% of Supra owners can't launch their car.. but the 1% that took the time to learn it can launch just as well as the Vette guys can (and do). The same situation will happen here.. it's unrelated to the blower.

If you are looking for a car to drag race the Z isn't a very good choice. I've drag raced mine quite a few times and have even done fairly well with it, but it is much better suited towards a road course than a drag strip. I think the first area I would concentrate on would be the rear suspension so you can really launch the car. The Z is very hard to launch correctly in stock form, you get terrible wheel hop unless you do it exactly right which takes a while to learn, and that wheel hop is terrible on the rest of the drivetrain.
If you are really planning to get into drag racing I'd look for either an old musclecar or an F-body or a stang. Much easier to go quick and for less money - just check out the story in the newest Hot Rod about Greg Gessler's '72 Buick GS - running 11's on a pretty much stock car with just massaged parts on bias ply tires - a feat that a Z will most likely never accomplish.

Do the full bolt-on route, get some slicks, and then wait a year to do FI.

for the record no Evo has put down 525 on a stock bottom end. The car that is putting that out is a customer of ours (from back in teh Subaru days), though he does most of the work on the car himself.

I'm confused. You said there is no EVO putting down that kind of power but then said there is one guy that is.

Sorry - I typed too fast to be clear I guess there is no Evo with a stock bottom end, the one car that is putting down those numbers (a bit higher now actually....534 IIRC) has a built motor top to bottom, though nothing really radical...its largely in his choice of turbo (3037S kit) and the ecu mapping

I do not like the evo, the eclipse, or anything mitsubishi for that matter. I am just not a fan. I dont care what type of times they are throwing down. If you read earlier in the post I said their was a evo where I live running a 12.6 and he was the one that I was going after. I never said they were slow I said they were junk and that is just my opinion.

Adam, gotcha.

f98sentra, it's fine if your opinion is that they're junk, but you're not backing up that opinion. That's why I responded that way. It's cool, we can leave it at that. The EVO is a little beast though.

Anyways, good luck.

Not to diverge, but, isn't the Z06 known for it's launches AND handling with lat. G's close to 1.0?
