Talking $10,000 For Performance. What to buy?

I have $10,000 dollars and want to spend it on performance mods for the Z. I need to get it into the 11's and I want to get that number with street tires. I am not sure which route I need to go. Should I go supercharger or turbo. Should I use nitrous or not. What would be the best way for me to go, and if possible list me what I should buy and the company you think would be best. Thanks in advance guys.

I would definitley start with the Procharger. That seems to be the best offering on the market right now.

Invest it for a year... once MORE mods are out, pull that cash and all the interest you've gained. THEN build the car with that extra cash.

Otherwise, if you plan on the being daily driving reliable... plan on spending more than $10k to FI the car after labor.

Honestly....sell it and buy an Evo....far easier to run those times and a far better platform to do it in

I it would take 500HP at the wheels to get in to the 11's

And some slicks.

I pull 11.7 in my 240Z and it has 350WHP and is only 2500lbs

Z1 is right, but not many people that own the Z like the looks of the EVO. Besides I don't think he wanted us to tell him to get rid of his car. It's take more than a basic S/C kit or a turbo charger kit to get in the 11's on street tires. Those kits (per recent testing in mags) show that they are good for less than 110mph traps on pump gas. You'll need to be trapping at least 120mph to get in the 11's on street tires. Sorry to tell you but it's gonna take a lot of work/money and practice.

It's too bad that it would take more than $10 g's to get the Z in the 11's. In the future it may take less, but right now not many (or just 1) have gotten in the 11's, therefore we can't help you too much.

Good luck

haha this reminds me of the mr2's.
just like the z, more of a handling car than a drag car. (especially the mr2 with no weight transfer).
and getting in the 11's in an mr2 is no easy feat either. (the one i had that ran a 12.12 was my autocross car, the 13.008 was my daily driver) and i had way too much money in both of those.
I would say the turbo route is the only way to go with this. while people are getting a lot of hp out of the procharger, you are basically limited there. with turbo's, you can pull more power out of them than what you are seeing in the mags (they are running pretty low boost).
anyways, plan on at least the following:

Turbos/intercooler
intake/exhaust/headers.

in my book, i would also rebuild the engine with lower compression pistons, and bored over a little bit, stand alone (even though i know of no one who is doing this yet with the Z)

also something once boosted that helps is the MSD ignition, including two step (allows you to build boost while staging) you might also be looking at drag radials and lots of practice.

also remember once you hit 11's you have to have a roll cage installed (per NHRA rules)

well what do you guys think I can get into with the money I have to spend. I do not want a evo in my opinion evo's are junk. I have already raced two of them and beat them both. I have a guy out here where I live who is running a 12.6 in his EVO and he wants to race me, but I have to do some work to get him. That is why I need to know which route to go. Honestly I was thinking of this setup for now:

Procharger Supercharger w/ intercooler
Headers
Nismo Catback
High flow cats
Pulley Kit

This is what I want to start off with and see what type of numbers this setup turns and then I will go from there. What type of times do you think this setup will turn?

Wait for the Dream Works Super Charger. That piece of kit looks sick.

Definatly go for headers / high flow cats / and the Nismo Cat Back.

We have all of that available on our web site to ship to you.

Nismo Headers $1117
Nismo Cat Back $847
Random Technology High Flow Cats $500 for my350z board members.

its gonna be hard to get there on street tires...

I say greddy tt then a trip to AEBS or Golden eagle for block sleeves and some new pauter rods... then crank up that boost

if I am correct the greddy kit ran 12.9 in the 1/4 right???

you could probably crank up the boost a little bit more than 5.6 psi and run better then 12.6 with just the greddy kit...

The best advice for getting into 11's with 10G's and NOT blowing your motor...wait 6 months.

Its that simple, within 6 months the FI options are going to greatly expand, and there will be other power-supportive mods out by then too (new rods anyone?).

At six months, make your decision (turbo will PROBABLY net you the 11's before a supercharger setup), drop some d/r's and a new clutch on that car, and make everybody proud.

11's on street tires, better double that amount.

Well, just to clear this up, if you have a turbo, you do not have headers. Instead you have an exhaust manifold and a downpipe, as these go before and after the turbo, respectively.

To do the turbo route, you will need at least:

two turbos
two manifolds
custom exhaust work
BOV
intercooler
lots of custom intercooler piping and connectors
bigger radiator (not sure on the exact efficiency of the stock rad, but when you add a front mount and up the horsepower you are effectively increasing temps and decreasing air flow to the radiator=running too hot)
larger injectors (if you want to make serious power)
larger fuel pump
redo your fuel lines with AN fittings and fuel line (maybe not, just I prefer AN)
RRFPR
boost controller
two external wastegates
water temp gauge (cannot use stock)
boost gauge
EGT gauge (a good indicator of what is occurring in the cylinders)
standalone ems (haltech, microtech, etc)
custom intake
rebuild your engine with stronger components because you will need 450hp minimum to run 11.9 on street tires
ACT clutch and pressure plate, maybe lighten your flywheel while you have it easily accessible.
etc
etc
etc

As you can see, this is expensive. Very, very, expensive and lots of work.

Aren't many people saying that the reason the turbos and SC's are running at low boost is the engine will not handle much past 400-425 whp reliably. I would probably look at the Greddy TT kit, but at some point you will need to strengthen the engine before you can turn up the boost reliably. Maybe some new rods, some low compression pistons. I would see getting into the 11's with the TT kit, and some nitrous but that would destroy an engine in short order unless it is built up.

Is there any street car in the $30K price range where $10K and street tires will get one into the 11s?

If I wanted to win at the strip, I don't think I would have purchased a 350Z.

Use the smithtown nissan formula, 375 shot of nitrous with some beefy tires and better flowing exhaust should equal 11 sec passes, until your engine falls apart. That si the only realistic way to get in the 11's for 10g. If you want a turbo set up expect at least 20g

i could be wrong but i think he meant that he had $10k to start with and eventually wanted to break into the 11's. not that he wanted an 11 sec. car with only $10K. so a better answer would include where to start building on the car with that amount of money with the hopes of having an 11 sec 350z...
