Default Modifying the fidanza short shifter

After buying my car, I immediately started modifying it. The fidanza short throw shifter was one of the first mods I got. After the install, it was a little difficult to find 5th and 6th. Recently, I discovered the shifter plate adjustment threads on here and decided to check into that. The fidanza kit eliminates the factory adjustment plate for one that is far inferior. The fidanza has a huge cutout and the notch on the shift lever that they included in the machining process is pointless. You don't even have to push down to get reverse.

Anyway, I found it annoying that my reverse lockout no longer worked even though the shifter was still spring loaded. It was even more annoying b/c 5th and 6th required some wiggling to engage.

What I did was take the fidanza shifter plate off and I stacked washers on the inner lip of it until they were even with the bottom of the plate. (Without doing this, you cannot engage reverse!) I installed my factory shifter plate on top of these washers carefully and started each of the supplied (longer) screws that came with the fidanza. I then placed the shifter into 5th. Now I placed the plate against the notch and tightened the screws. I tested all 6 gears for engagement, then tested for reverse. The reverse lockout now works (You have to push down to go over far enough) and 5th and 6th are EASY to find.

Sorry for not thinking about taking my camera to the shop with me but I think it's easy enough to understand. This makes the fidanza shifter MUCH better. I was honestly going to remove it if this didn't work.

Yeah, stay away from the Fidanza. If you have it already, follow what I said and it'll work great for you!

I've had the shifter almost as long as I've had the car (06). It works just fine now. Not removing it. =P
