35K Boosted before it gave up. Help guys?
After 35000 miles of boosted fun my VQ gave up. Not 100% sure on what happen but, the build is on!!! I don't have much experience in the forum so be patience with me. Guys tell me what it sound like? Sounds to me like the rod is knocking. I'll be putting a build plan soon, to try and get some advice. What do you guys think? Just trying to get second opinion

Yeah, sounds like a rod knock. Valvetrain noise would be about 1/2 as fast, but like I tell everyone, put a mechanic's stethoscope on it and see where the noise is loudest, if it's loudest from the pan, rod knock.
Damm Raul you were haulin *** right before the noise started! I think you blew by me at over 170mph!
Im still saying it was the 12.5-13.0 AFR you said you were seeing on the Wideband. That will be sure to detonate and beat the bearings to death. Needless to say I drove home slow and paranoid seeing how quick yours starting making noise.

Thanks to everyone for there comment. I'm almost 100% convinced is a rod knock. As soon as I able to take it apart, I'll post it up.
Now looking into the built I need some advice, Keep in mind this was unexpected so I'm on a budget. But I do want to make sure I have some room maybe up to 700 or 750 whp for the future. As for now I'm planning on getting as far as the walbro with bigger injectors allows me which I'm guessing would be around 550 whp correct me if I'm wrong.
*CP or Weisco (do guys think is worth paying the extra money for the CP?)
*Eagle or Manley Rods (I was recommended Manley for better fit and finish, higher quality)
*How Important is doing the rev up oil pump? What are the benefits? Higher efficiency! Is it needed?
*ACL or Factory Bearings? ( I wasn't able to get a price on OEM but on ebay the whole set of ACL for $230)
*L19 or regular ARP (I was told regulars are usually good till about 700whp)
*Will stuck main studs do it or should go ARP Main Studs?
*What about sticking with the OEM Head gasket or Comedic?
I'll appreciate all of your help.

figured out why the engine messed up in the first place, turns out I had a bent rod so the bottom side of the piston started to hit the crankshaft counter weight.

Ouch… just curious though, when this happened were you doing long pulls in 5th and 6th gear? And how much power were you pushing at the time?
Good luck man! On the bright side it should be a beast when it comes out of surgery!

Yes I actually was doing long pulls of 5th and 6th went up to 15ish. Has this happen to people before because of doing long gear pulls? It was putting down around 390whp on 7 7.5 psi

When I was putting my single turbo car together I was told I should be fine with boost on the stock block as long as I kept the power around 400whp, got a good tune, and avoided pushing the car hard from a low rpm in 5th or 6th gear or doing any top speed runs.
Seems like your tune was good as you just bent the rod and didn’t have a catastrophic engine failure that sent the rod outside of the block or anything and the hp figures seemed safe too, just too much stress on the engine and the weakest point of the VQ (rods) just gave.
I still believe it was the 12.5 AFR causing detonation that beat the rods to near death. And its hard not to boost in 5th. All we have in Florida is highways and 5th and 6th is the most used gears.
