Newly installed Tomei LSD high speed "feel" question
I just installed a Tomei 2way LSD and broke it in per specifications (figure 8s for 45 minutes).
This is my first clutch type LSD and I have a pretty good idea what the noise and harshness will be, the clunking sound and feel doesn't bother me and I was prepared for it when I purchased it. I did not have a chance to drive the car much around town (maybe 20 miles) after breaking it in and changing the fluid.
Tonight I drove about 150 miles and the diff seemed fine, usual clicking when turning on to on-ramps and left turns at stop lights. Near the end of my drive (when it was getting kind of cold out and I had a feeling I had somewhat reduced traction) the car felt like it was pushing more than usual on high speed curves at highway speeds (55-60mph) and sometimes I would hear it/feel it pop a little while following the curve. Needless to say this is a little concerning at higher speed, my question is, is this normal? Has anyone else with a clutch type LSD (I would think any 1/1.5/2 way would act the same in this respect) noticed this behavior? Maybe my traction was reduced due to temp and this caused my tires to not overcome the lockup torque on the differential?
I also noticed as I pulled into my destination that when I coasted into the driveway and turned with my clutch in that the diff was popping/chattering and while I assume this is normal, I don't remember it doing it when the clutch was in, only when the drivetrain had load on it (clutch out, accel or engine braking).
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

My ATS Carbon operated silently. No pops or clunks. The bearings eventually went and needed to be replaced to get rid of a whine but that was after 15k miles. I switched to a Quaife at that point as the 3k fluid changes were a PITA. I have to say the ATS carbon (1.5 way I believe) felt a little better than the Quaife on corners.

It sounds like your diff lock percent is set at 100% lock. I've specifically heard that when going around on/off ramps the lsd and the tires fight for traction and the tires have to win. I just remembered I read this in a article of Modified Mag, they put a KAAZ 2way in their shop car and had the same issue. The solution was better tires, and re-stacking the clutch plates in the diff to 60% lock.
Thank you all for your responses, I suspected as much on the traction of the tires not overcoming the lockup of the diff. The Tomei is set for 100% from the factory, I did not rearrange the clutch plates when I assembled it.
Sad to admit this but even with the list of mods on my 2007 Z: I/H/E, Tune, 4.08 final drive, 2-way LSD, Coilovers, all urethane bushings, all control arms/links/a-arms replaced with hybrid adjusters I have yet to do wheels and tires, lol! Got so busy putting all this other stuff on and no luck finding wheels that I really like...
I just made the decision to store it where I am right now rather than risk driving another few hundred miles when its cold out and I have reduced traction. Put the big tires on next year and then I will drive it to its final destination, might be warmer then too

Sorry to dig this thread up, but I recently got a Tomei 2way and wanted to rearrange the clutch packs before installing it. Normally manufacturers will provide the order for restacking the plates but I'm unable to find it for the Tomei. If I wanted to set mine to say, 80%, could someone help me figure out the order in which they should be rearranged? The Tomei has 24 plates, 12 on each side, if that helps at all. Thanks in advance!
