2006 MT - rough shifting + binding
This is starting to drive me crazy:
I had my tranny replaced after some problem at 15k with the 1-2 synchros.
I just came back from the dealer and they adjusted the h-pattern shifter plate, but still get a bind 1-2. It feels like I sometimes have to force the 1st gear in, so I am thinking that it's air in the system since this is most obvious when it's cold (55F). I don't see any leaks, or cracks and the clutch seems to be slipping a bit, but honestly I just can't tell anymore since the new tranny was installed.
I can't remember anymore even how the tranny felt before so I might have to test out a used 350z to see how smooth the operation is supposed to be.
Any clues for anyone else that had MT transmission problems? How smooth is the transmissions supposed to be? I can feel a slight thunk 1-2, but that just might be the gear spacing.

Wow. i have a 06 also, and have the same problem just about. Shifts from 1-2 seem like a task when it is has been sitting for a while and it is 50f a night. Also even when warmed up i will get blocked out of second gear it seems if i dont have it at the right rpms at the right time or something. Resulting in me still in neutral in the intersection which is scary.
It could be alot of things but, but i dont have the money or time to figure it out so i just deal with it for now. I hope somebody can chime in and help with this problem...

I think we have addressed the finicky transmission for 8 years. Call the transmission finicky or "notchy," it does have some unique characteristics. For my 350Z, first to second gear was a notchy shift.
And guess what about the 370Z? You got it - first to second gear. The shift depends on attributes such as RPM. High RPM seems to do better than low RPM shift.
The transmission is not broken - its just a 350Z.

I have 2006 with manual transmission. I've not had notchy shifts yet. The first thing I did after buying the car was switch the transmission fluid to Royal Purple. It may not help you now but if you do get the transmission serviced I recommend Royal Purple or Red Line transmission fluid to keep working for a long time.

I am going to hit the dealer lot tomorrow and test a few cars out. It's a bit more that what you guys call notchy. 1st gear is sometimes a bear to push into and is very similar to what the old tranny felt like, except that one had problems in the synchros from 1-2-3-4.
